more comfortable seat

What can anybody recommend for a better seat w/o breaking the bank? My wife hates the stock one on our 2004 R1150R and my butt get sore too!!!!

This would have to be one of the most talked about issues on here.
Do a search, and plenty of answers will appear.
In short, it is a personal thing, different butts, different seat.
Some even like the original seat.

I have had a Rick Mayer seat for a little over a year and 25000 miles and must say I would buy another. I have an Alaskan Butt Pad on it and find it very comfortable for 500 mile days.

My Rick Mayer is amazing. Great value and price. If you are in the area, I recommend a drive-in. It's really cool to see him actually mold the seat from scratch. Plus, he's one of the nicest guys you'll meet.

I got a used Sargent front and rear from the buy sell section here a couple of years ago. I still have the stock one if I ever sell the bike.

I added a Beadrider for the passenger recently.

dwheels, the cheapest solution to your problem is to get a sheepskin cover for the seat, it stops numb bum and keeps you cooler when its hot and warm in colder weather. I got mine in black from http://www.lambland.co.uk/shop/motorcyc ... -1190.html

Best £20 including Postage and packing I ever spent on bike gear, took myself and my Petite Pillion all the way from Scotland to Belgium, France, Northern Spain and back without the dreaded numb bum.

To fit the skins to the drivers seat just take the seat off and tuck the ends of the skin under the sides of the seat.

On the rear I undid the strap on the pillion seat at one side and put the skin underneath before redoing it, I also let a bit hang over the rear of the seat which got tucked under the tail to keep it secure.

I haven't got one of their covers but have spoken to them on the phone
(unfortunately I found out about easiriders too close to the departure date for my last big trip, but found them to be very knowledable and helpfull) and will probably get a set of their custom made covers before next years big trip.

I bought myself a Sargent seat at the rally and rode it back to Toronto (Canada). Well worth the money......my butt still thanks me!!!!

The easiest and cheapest solution to butt pain is to wear comfortable underwear. Padded bicycle are said to work well too as do sheepskin butt pads. I've also found that the type of pants I'm wearing on the ride have a huge effect on riding comfort.

Lastly there may be more comfortable seats for the our beloved
R's out there but as far as stock seats go the one on my 04 is the most comfortable I've had on any motorcycle.

If your butt doesn't agree with the stock seat, then most likely any aftermarket seat will be an improvement. You shouldn't have a problem finding them used for a good price. I would comb the used BMW sites (ibmwr.org, BMWMOA.org, BMWRA.org, local clubs, etc.)

Really happy with my Sargent, but still get sore and 500 miles is a good day. Biking shorts, dead sheep and being in "riding shape" all help.

There is a grey ostrich leather Corbin on fleabay right now. Complete with pillion backrest.

Got my Sargent on ebay, they show up there every so often. Had Corbins in the past, Sargent much better.
