Luggage latch part numbers

Does anyone know the PN for the luggage latch assembly ? I was going to price it on Chicago BMW's web site, but I cannot find the PN. Snapped off the L shaped clamp of course. Wish someone had a fix for that. I think the latch willl be expensive.

Which "L-shapped clamp" are you talking about? 1) The orange tab one that works with the key somehow and gets broken when you get in a hurry? Or 2) the little metal one that snaps up under the system case rails and is the sole metal object holding the case in place?

Sorry, I don't know the answer to either question. mick Hoff, the previous poster, seems to have pretty much nailed the answer to #1. I'll be anxiously watching this thread to see if it turns out to be clamp #2, 'cause that's the one broken on mine.

#2, Dave. It's the main clamp to hold the bag to the bike. I actually rode the bike for a couple days before I realized it was broken. I found the snapped off piece lying in the parking lot at work. I't's just some cheap cast metal. I would have used forged stainless here, knowing the importance of this clamp. I removed the whole latch assembly, but taking it aprt looks like a pain because they used pop rivits all through the thing.
I'll run that 71607654337 number on Chicago BMW and see what it costs. If it's really $198 I'll be looking for a crashed side case.

I think that PN is going to turn out to be the Orange Tab Lock Assembly thingy. The pictures on the cited link are a fine piece of work on making that repair, and I suspect some of those procedures/pix would come in handy for the Latch Assembly repair, but I think our part is a bit more expensive. So much so, that scavaging a trashed system case might be the economical way to go.

Considering your comments, it might be that the fix that's jury-rigged on mine is not such a bad deal. The previous owner got a small piece of angle aluminium and attached it to the "stump" of the broken bracket using a tiny machine screw. I don't know sizes, but if an erector set-sized screw is a meaningful description to you---it's about that size. I think he drilled and tapped the stump. I don't know how long its been like this, but its held up for a few thousand miles for me and shows no sign of coming apart. Mostly, its just a nagging worry. Perhaps the fix is stronger than the original??!!!

Right, Dave, it's the wrong piece. What we want is that item numbered "1", but they seem to be referrring to the whole box on that parts list. My clamp sheared off clean just above the pin, if you get what I mean. What I'd like to do is take it apart and put in a piece of drop forged steel like they should have done to begin with. However, it looks like if i drillled out enough pop rivets to get the pin out the whole thing would fall in a heap of small parts.
