I'm getting mine back tomorrow from it's 6K. Now that I think about it this bike must be much more gentle on tires that my 98 K1200RS which needed new tire every 3.5 or 4 K miles. My Michelin Pilot Roads are still very servicable looking at 6K and that would never have happened with the Big K. I think I'll have Don Eilenberger do my next service. I do like my Michelins although I can't elaborate why.
Did anyone else here get the feeling that after the 600 mi tune that their bike lost "something" , some slight zip? Maybe it's just my brain. When it was replace with that one from Abby.......what was the last name?
A confession: I love my son and I just love my new R1200R: My son just went off to college and my bike has been at the shop for a week. I don't have empty nest syndrome but I do have empty garage syndrome.

Hebert's BMW, Baton Rouge
Here is the 6000 mile breakout from Hebert's BMW. Keep in mind that I supplied my own oil (Amsoil Motorcycle synthetic) and Mobil-1 Full synthetic GL-5 gear lube for the transmission and final drive.
1. 6000 mile service 1.5 hrs @ 80.00/hr= 120.00
2. Rear Drive Service .5 hrs = 40.00
3. Gearbox Service .5 hrs = 20.00
Prebooking special discount = -30.00
PARTS:
Oil FIlter 16.05
wast disposal fee 3.00
Misc shop supplies 5.00
seal .77
gasket ring 1.54
sales tax 15.87
TOTAL 6000 mile service bill $192.23
The actual service time is dead on to the estimated flat rates in the service guide.
I requested the additional service of the transmission and final drive as it is not that much trouble to change it when on the lift, and is good insurance to keep the fluids changed regularly.
Give that I had the pleasure of playing with the R1200RT and the F800ST bikes for the whole time I was in for service, I find the whole experience and pricing quite reasonable.

I just had my 6000 mile service done and it cost me $167.62 at Destination Motorcycles, LLC In Knoxville Tn.

20W50oil 20.00
Misc Shop Items 1.99
Enviro Charge 2.50
Service LBR-Current Bi 75.00

Runs like a crazy monkey but seems to have a bit too much oil it it as I can't see the line after letting it sit on the center stand for a while.

Unless it's lost under the $75.00 charge - I see nothing there about the valve adjustment - which is a 6,000 mile item.. so it looks as if this was an incomplete 6k service.celticus wrote:I just had my 6000 mile service done and it cost me $167.62 at Destination Motorcycles, LLC In Knoxville Tn.

Hey, guys these bikes are so easy to service that most can be done by you. especially the oil changes. $60 for labor to change trans and diff oil is a rip. both can be done in about 15 minutes. you need a drain pan and the wrenches to fit the drain/fill plugs. engine oil change is about as easy. Buy a filter wrench and save some $$. Valve adj. is pretty straight forward and easy if you are at all mechanically inclined. TB synch is not too bad either, and there is not much else. Anybody can "inspect".
