Funny story about saddlebags....

Well this isn't really a funny story to me, but some of you may find it humorous. Shortly after I bought my bike a friend who also owns a BMW warned me to be VERY careful parking it with the bags on the back until I got used to the extra width. Well me being a big dummy forgot all about that and slammed the right bag right into the back bumper of my car as I was pulling into the garage. The bag flew off, and I found that the front clip that hangs on the bar had actually snapped off on impact.
Anyone know of a cheap fix to this? Epoxy held for about.....ummm....zero seconds when trying to clip it back on the bike. Am I just out $350 or so? I guess it's not so bad, Christmas is coming up, and a new saddlebag sure beats a tie, or socks. BUT, then will I have to have a second key, and different keys to each bag? That would be very annoying, almost as annoying as getting a pair of socks for Christmas, so let me know of any ideas.

PS Did anyone see the new November issue of Motorcyclist? They referred to the R1150R as "painfully beige" and suggested instead to get a Rockster. I guess even though it's essentially the same bike, because it's called "Rockster" and has a wild and crazy paint job it is more exciting. Thank you Motorcyclist, but if it's all the same I will keep my "painfully" black R1150R.

What side came off? I have a left for the high pipe sitting in my garage. almost free you pay postage and contribute to the list. The lock will pop out of your case and can be inserted into the next one. BTW I went with the city lids after doing the hit a car thing.

The BMW system case is made up of three parts.

The outer (lid)...The Inner (the bit you broke)...and the handle/lock/mechanism.

You just need to buy a new inner...and drill out the rivets on the old handle/lock/mechanism and re rivet them into the new inner.

It will be much cheaper doing it that way.

I have a set of two... I replaced them with Hepco-Becker bags. We bought the R1150R used and the previous owner did the slam down on the lock when the lock tab was in the locked position, so it is broken. Thus, I'll make a good deal on the set if you want them.

You could just repair it. Go to the hardwaer store get the right width of flate steel stock some scews, washers and nuts. Fasion a hook from the flat stock drill some holes mount it in place, a little flat black paint and there you go. cost $5.00 and some time.

wbrisett...what are you asking for the bags? I just bought a 04 r1150r and was looking to buy a set, but $700+!!!! whoa...too rich for me after shelling out the cash on the bike.

BMW sell key sets (actually - bits for the lock) to re-key panniers to your ignition key.

He has the lockset therefore all he needs is an inner case for the bag.The lock is easy to remove and reinstall in the new case.

Thanks, but I have gathered that much before replying.

What I was saying is that you do not need to have to put up with 2 keys even if you just do not have access to the old key barrels.
