Being vertically challenged and not looking forward to constantly leaning forward in my travels, I researched bar risers and may have found a real bargain. For less than $40.00 delivered to my door, my R12R now sports a 1" higher and 1.25" closer set of risers. If this is of interest, you may want to check it out at

Back when I had my R850R I used their tubular bar conversion kit. Good workmanship and fit. Worked great.

I second the $40 Moto-techniques risers.

If you value cosmetics over functionality, the other brands may be a better choice, but the fit & finish of the Moto-techniques are just fine.

The only real difference is that they don't have the (expensive to machine) semicircular protrusion on the bottom that fills up the OEM clamps' space where the bars were. Instead they have a simple rectangular protrusion that locks into the OEM lower clamp to take any forward forces off the machine screws.

Since I can't see that space when I'm riding, I chose to save $60+!

I have the moto-technique, and it works fine. I was a little worried about the esthetics at first but it fits in just fine. I think it looks good.

I checked the link, flashy_bmw, and I am wondering which one fits the R1200R. I saw one that specifies the R1200RT, but that one didn't look like what you described. Which one fits the R12R?

I also wonder how one discovers that one needs such a device. When I am riding, I feel pretty comfortable, but perhaps there is room for improvement. I'm about 5'8''. I do find myself checking my position now and then, when I realize that I've got a bit too much weight on my wrists/hands. I remind myself to use my abs to remain upright, and this takes any extra weight off of my wrists. Handling the bike is obviously a lot easier when I'm not leaning forward too much. In riding position, my arms are extended, but with a very slight bend in my elbows. The bars don't feel too low, but I wonder if it wouldn't be an improvement if they were a little closer to me. Hard to say, as the ergos do seem pretty good, over-all.

I'm not inclined to make changes until I'm well-adapted to the bike first, and a few hours has been the longest I've been on it so far. I figure I'll do my best with what is already there, then, once I'm sure that an improvement can me make, then I'll move on it.

Any thoughts?
