I want it

Post by irishbiker »

Want to get myself a 1150 r but not sure what is a good deal and a bad deal here in the states.

I saw one today 2002 13000 miles, bags and trunk bag, cruise control, windshield, just had the 12000 service done and looks pretty good. Is $7000 too much for this bike in California. Nada lists it at $4,800 with the extras, KBB is a bit higher maybe $5,200 hard to tell as they dont give a private sale price. Also i am six foot, 33 inch inseam and weas wondering will i have to get a higher seat?

Any feedback would be great. Cheers for looking.

I am 6 foot and the standard seat is fine. Can't help with US prices as I am in UK.

The price does not sound too off, though they may come down a bit if you make a cash offer. I'm 6'2" and have not had any problems with the stock set-up (although we are all a bit different).

The accessories cost about $1,000 - so, that price isn't bad. Is the bike clean and no accidents? What condition of tires? I bought my '03 two years ago, 9,000 miles, super clean, new Metzler M6's, no accessories for $6,200. I'm 6'2" and had the tall seat. Broke my butt in 30 minutes everytime I went for a ride. Put a Corbin seat on and can now ride all day. 8)

right deal?

Post by markg »

Price seems a bit high to me. It would have to be absolutely showroom condition to consider it at that price. But, if it's worth it to you that's all that matters.

I'm 6'2/34 inseam and bought the tall seat right away, and was REALLY glad I did. I also put bars from a BMW Mystic on it, which are a bit narrower and lower than stock. Now the bikes fits me perfectly and feels like a late 70's/early 80's superbike, which is just right.

Good luck to you.

Price is fair. You did not mention if the bike had ABS so that is about a $1K upgrade right there. Low miles for that year bike.
BMW's hold there value so most will be priced above NADA.
Check ebay and you will get a good idea on prices.

Sounds like a good price for Cali. I just bought my '03 in May for $7000 from the dealer here in Daytona and now he has the same bike w/o bags for $8,000. Go for the plunge, it's so worth it.
I have the stock seat and ride fine for my 6'3" 260lb body.

Welcome aboard

Base prices for R1150R w/o ABS with 6K miles per year
(Excellent condition, low miles, recent service.)

2002 - $5000
2003 - 6000
2004 - 7000
2005 - 8000

add $500 for ABS.
add $$$ for system cases, windshield, new tires.

All other extras are very hard to value.

Subtract $1000 for Atlanta Blue.

Warren,

I don't think the price is that out-of-line, given the accessories and 12K service. Also, my limited experience in buying a BMW, and previously an HD, has been that the sellers of excellent condition bikes usually want more than the NADA or KBB values, and won't come down to those values.

The price is also heavily depends on how desperate seller is and how badly buyer wants it.

I picked up my 2004 with 10,000 miles in 2006 for $8,000. No ABS, but did have Remus exhaust. grip warmers, center stand, Givi fairing and passenger rails/bag mounts but no bags as add-ons. $7000 means a $6500 offer if I were to consider it. As mentioned earlier, ABS might change the value a bit, however, I for one am quite pleased to have the non-ABS version after all the troubles I had with my two R1200c's and the servo-assist ABS system. Best thing BMW did was loose that configuration on the new R's :D

Paid $7100 OTD for my '05 R1150R. No bags though. Mine doesn't have a stock paint job. Additionally, the fly screen has been cut down and the rear fender has been modified. Mine didn't have the rear muffler, had to buy one from BMWOA. Good luck and I hope this helps.

I paid $6700 before tax and tags, for my 2002 with bags, windshield and 23000 miles last year. Best $6700 I ever spent. I would think that at $6500 it would be a sweet deal, but 7000 OTD would be resonable.

I have an '04 for sale

Post by queenpdog »

I'm about to post my 2004 R1150R in the classified forum here. Minnesota is a long way from Cali, but for the price, it might be worth looking at shipping. In the meantime (until I can get it posted here), here's the CL link.

34K?
It's still a baby!
That sounds like a good price if it is in nice shape. On the other hand, look at mine! 2004, twin spark.....
