The best drivers in the world are.......

Post by hotzuk »

Hey gang,

Watching the Superbowl and you know how Fox plugs NASCAR all the time. First, let me say that I am a fan of motor racing period but when they say that they are the best drivers in the world I am a little suspect. Once again, everyone is entitled to their opinion and I am a huge Formula One fan but for the best drivers in the world I would like to nominate the World Rally Car Drivers. No practice. No real course that you can run in pre-season testing. Race in all the elements and it is just you and your navigator whom you have more faith in than probably your wife. Love to hear your thoughts!

I wouldn't be qualified to say but I would venture a guess the best drivers are not NASCAR drivers! Evidenced by how few of them win at the road courses! Usually the same guys over and over.

Turning left at 200 mph may take skills and courage but surely some of the other race drivers require more real driving skills!

Well, there is the small issue of JPM. Senor Montoya, while impressive on the road courses, probably got a solid, what B? on the rest of the circuit. His peer Villeneuve appeared even worse, but perhaps we should wait on a full season from him before passing judgment. WRC drivers? An interesting nomination. Hmm, they have codrivers reading off the turns from a notebook...

I think we would need Michael Schumacher to run a full schedule in NASCAR, WRC, and for good measure:

before we could make a final determination.

As much as I love the WRC the F1 guys get my vote.

BTW...Have you seen the new aero on the new BMW F1 car.

They should have no problem getting RedBull as a sponsor now.. :D

I would like to see Travis Pastrana give F1 a shot. Then we would know for sure.

At least the open wheel drivers have to avoid hitting each other! Not like the NASCAR guys 'trading paint' either on purpose or accidentally!

Errr......make mine Danica Patrick as I'm fascinated how a petite 120 lbs woman can handle a 900 hp beast. I hope that is a good argument.

The best drivers in the world are not in Mississippi, unless they are passing through.

IMHO no one comes close for skill and entertainment, it was rumoured that he had a test drive for Ferrari F1 team and was very impressive.

I don't think that "The Doctor" is a good driver/rider, I think what makes him good is the size of his "cojones".......

Watch a supercross/motocross race. They are the best. Not drivers of cars, but drivers none the less.

The best drivers in the world....are certainly NOT on the streets in the Seattle area!

Now, F-1 vs Indy Car vs WRC vs NASCAR? All excellent drivers, but that's sort of like Apples vs Oranges vs Kiwi vs Peaches. I'd vote for the Rally guys mostly. They have someone read road notes? Yeah, have ya ever seen where they race? They're still the one with hands on the wheel and pedal to metal....

I've attended F-1 and Indy (type) car races. Never had the opportunity to watch WRC except on the boob tube. If there was a NASCAR track around here, and the admission was free, I think I'd consider attending. Watched a lot of circle track stuff in my early days, thinks it's sort of boring. Just IMHO! (Hmm, Dirt Sprint Cars can be interesting...but that's another story)

I think the folks who take on the Dakar, Baja and other 'off road' circuits are amongst the best drivers out there
