exhaust options - R1150RA

I'm thinking of adding a Leo Vince SBK Evo II Carbon Slip On (#6338) exhaust to my 2002 R1150RA.

Does anyone have any advice on this add? a good idea? better alternatives?

Several people here have run their bike without any muffler. The catalytic converter actually does a pretty good job of muffling the exhaust, and is enough of a bottle-neck that fuel injection can adjust far enough to have the bike run right. Might as well give it a try, since it's only two bolts and a few minutes to take it off. Most of the people have added a stubby pipe (from a car parts store) to make the end of the cat look a little prettier.

Be sure to dump the cat converter first. For the change in hp read the two links below. I have a sebring Y pipe with stock cans. An improvement in smoothness, power, weight difference I can feel, and most importantly, a major heat source under the gear box is gone.

Try a Y pipe first, then add a cannister if you still feel the need.

So anyways I took the whole pull the muffler off idea and did that tonite.
It isnt bad, its not as bad ass sounding as i had hoped but it does make it louder and a little more bass sounding.

Though i did notice when you twist that throttle it tends to torque a little bit more to the side than it used to.

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this.

Running leaner produces more engine heat which is the enemy of the air/oil cooled boxer. The stock exhaust on the bike was carefully designed to provide the correct pressure and hence the correct mixture and driveability. Also, the ECU map is designed against the stock system. By removing the pipes, CAT and O2 sensor, you have modified the engine stoichiometry. Yes, damage could result from overheating or other fueling issues.

The boxer motor does not respond well to exhaust modifications without adding chips and other components. Usually the result is 1-3 HP gain, a bit more noise and reduced gas mileage. The costs for such modifications will usually reach $1000.00 or higher.

How so?....Just wondering.

Broadly speaking in effect you increase the amount of air going through the engine.
You will have similar effect if you add some free-flow air filter.

From all the CAT replacements - better get a Y-piece with thread to be able to reinstall the Lambda sensor.
That would keep the engine partially happy.
Also - consider adding something like Techlusion and adjust the lot.
For best result - get it on a Dyno so they can get your air/fuel mixture right.

Well - I would not do something like that for HP increase. Too expensive.
If I was chasing raw power and speed - I will sell the Rockster and buy a Honda Fireblade.
More like - to get a "fruity" exhaust note.

I kept the cat on there all i took off was the actual muffler so now my rear wheel is exposed.

I've been running my bike like that for 6 yrs now (70,000 klms)...and it doesn't run lean..(I've had it checked).

As long as you do not remove the cat..it'll be ok.

It's not much different to putting a sports type straight through muffler on the cat...Just cheaper and lighter.

I've got a Remus Y pipe and slipon on my 02 with a high flow air filter and intake snorkel and a techlusion fuel tuner. The bike runs and sounds great. It dynoed at 86 RWHP with 100 ft/lb of torque.

I've got an HD too. Has slipons, high flow A/C and power Commander. It runs like a scalded... well, it's faster than a stock one anyway.
