Tires

After a pretty amazing 7,000 mile trip from NYC to the Grand Canyon and back, it is time for a 24,000 mile service and new tires. Any recommendations out there?

What were you running. Sounds as if they held up pretty well for your trip.

There are a lot of very informative tire threads here, just search. Popular are the Metzeler ME880/Z6 Roadtec, Pirelli Diablo Strada, Michelin Pilot road/PR2, and so on. I ran the Z6, loved the handling/feel but they were useless off the pavement. I have my first-ever set of Pilot Roads with 2k, pretty happy so far.

Running Pilot Power 2CT on mine, second set so far. Love em!! Got almost 10k outta my last rear

I got 8k out of a set of Conti RoadAttacks that I liked quite a bit. Feel really solid in corners, decent in the wet. I put another set on, so they can't be all bad.

Previously, I got 5k on the Bridgestone BT56 rears (2), and 10k* on the BT56 front.

* It was completely bald on the left side, I should have replaced it before then.

My last set of long termers was a Diablo Strada front, that paired 2 Diablo Strada Rears, AND a Scorpion Sync rear! Longest lasting front tyre I have EVER had -14K miles! Got another pair of DSs on now.

Had a brief fling with a pair of ex-race Michelin Power Races - surprisingly good all round actually! -lasted about 2K miles.

replaced Metzler Z6's with Conti road attacks - didn't like the Z6 because of the bald spot down the middle of back tire made it squirrely, sometimes, to my surprise. the Conti's just hug the road and roll through turns quicker, to my enjoyment.

+1 for the Road Attacks. Very impressed with the Conti RA's so far....very responsive with good feedback and, more importantly, they stick like crap to a blanket

I am currently running Bridgestone BT021. They are pretty sticky, but I was disappointed in the longevity of the rear tire(5k miles). However, I did just buy another rear 021 since, I have a decent amount of life on the front, and decided to keep matching tires on the bike. OK in the rain.

The Pilot Roads are the best tire I have had on the bike. They lasted 8-10k miles, had pretty good grip in the dry, and excellent wet traction. I was going to put a PR rear on today, but Iron Pony was out of the right size until later this week.

The tire guy there said that there have been somepeople who have been disappointed in the longevity of the PR2.

I had the Z6 at one point in time, but I never really liked them.
