OTD Price South East USA

Post by PeterK »

Hello,

I am considering a new bike and I think I like the R1200R (although, it isn't w/o its faults). One of the faults being the price for the bike.
I think I'd like the ABS and the electronic suspension along with heated grips and the trip computer. And the TPM. These should cover all the expensive options.

I've never bought a bike from a dealer yet. Two cars, but not a bike. I know the cars are not driven out for the price I see on the sticker.

What about bikes? How much is a fair price for a brand new R1200R from a good dealer? Any junk fees -- are they avoidable? I know I can't get rid of the sales tax.

I would really appreciate any advice...

Thanks!

2 months ago, I bought My R1200R w/ABS but no electronic suspension for 16k even, OTD. This was LA CALIF, so I don't know if that helps any.
Good luck.

Unless BMW gives the dealers a take-back deal (AKA - trunk $$$ - money to help make a deal on bikes that aren't moving), the dealer isn't making a bunch'a money selling at full retail. BMW has raised the cost of the bikes to the dealers as the $$$ plummets, but left the retail price where it was - cutting into dealer margin.

If you can get $1,000 off - you're doing wonderful. If you get a set of bags tossed into the deal, you done'good. Sometimes BMW has incentives like $500 in free accessories, or first ## payments free - which can be a good deal. Usually means you're near the end of the model/season year - and they have bikes left. Not too long before you'll see this happening for the 2008's.

As far as the R12R having faults - very few once you actually own one. You'll appreciate what a great design it is and how well it was thought out. Price is high - for me - it didn't matter.. you only go this way once and it's something I really wanted.

Good luck finding one!

"Price is high" basically means that competitors are cheaper.

I have read many threads on many forums, and I am sure whatever I choose I won't regret my choice. One guys has moved from the R1200r (or 1150?) to the Sprint ST. Very happy. Actually, I am going to look at the Sprint ST/Street Triple this w/end. I know, the Sprint is a different kind of bike, but I think it's worth looking at.

Having said all this, I still more inclined to the r1200r. Oh, well... We live only once. $1000 off MSRP sounds where I'd like to be (no junk fees, though...)

I've ridden Honda's, Yamaha's, Triumph's, Suzuki's, Harley's and now own My R which is by far the best bike I've ever had. I truly enjoy riding this bike. My dealer in Virginia is selling lots of bikes, I think the price of gas has more and more people on two wheels. The R doesn't seem to move as fast as the GS bikes here. I got mine for 16,800 OTD with ABS, WIndscreen, heated grips, on board computer, and exhaust, plus they gave me a great deal on helmet and riding gear ( about 50% off retail price )

Definitely go ride as many bikes as you can, the key is finding the right bike for you, for me it was the R1200R.

Good luck!

Greenville, SC BMW dealer sold me my 08 1200 R OTD for $15,300. It has heated grips, computer, low seat, ABS, exhaust, center stand, engine/crash guards and the V-Technik Vstream 2406 windshield.

I've done this before and it generally works. I went on E-Bay and found the Orlando BMW dealer selling stripped down 06 1200 RT's.
I contacted the dealer direct and started with the low price found on E-Bay and worked in the extras I wanted and saved $3000 on the bike including the shipping of the bike from Florida to Utah. I did the same thing for the 1200 R. I contacted the BMW dealer in Orlando and asked them to work up a price. I told them what I wanted and asked them to fax me the invoice. I sent them an AMEX card number as a down payment and had every intention of flying down and picking up the bike. Just for kicks, I called every dealer near me here in North Carolina and asked them if they'd match the price and the SC dealer did and beat it as well. They wanted to move the bike and I was happy to get a very competitive price.

I purchased a 2008 R12R two weeks ago in Ft Wayne, In. My bike has ABS, computer, centerstand, BMW side cases, and Vtech windshield. I got the bike for $15,393 OTD. I think that was a pretty good deal.

This is my first bike with ABS and I would never have another without it. The brakes are great. I love the bike. best one I've ever owned.

The V tech screen works really well. I had a Cee Bailey on my last bike that worked pretty well. I like the v tech better. I was going to get the BMW screen but the parts guys talked me into the V Tech. Turns out that is a much better screen.

The Givi's are nice cases I had them on my last bike.

I'll have to get me some of those round dells for my tires.

I bought the '08 DEMO with 435 miles, Black , ABS, Computer, Heated Grips,Center Stand and 600 mile service for $13,500.00 plus tax of 6% here in Pa(Hermy's). All recall items had been done since it was the DEMO even the software update :D .........Then I got the side bags with rear rack plus top case for $1200.00 :D :D

I love this bike !! Lot more performance over my 2003 R1150R that I paid $9400.00 w/side cases but no ABS ....... in 2003

Buy it and Ride it.........The best Standard Avaliable with bags made Today!!!
