Factory Lowered R1200R

Post by AGW »

Hi, new to forum as member, and have noted a number of comments regarding ride height. I bought a factory lowered R1200R and though it states it is 740mm high I measure it at 750mm or about 29 1/2 ins. I am 5ft 4 ins in height and 27ins inseam. I manage ok with ordinary bike boots (balls of feet), but use some boots (called New Rock) which have high sole and heal and with them can flat foot it. I find the bike very light and the easiest bike I have ever had to ride at slow speeds. I had factory lowered F660GS and this bike is much easier to drive at slow speed. At higher speeds.....well need I say more!!! My bike has all the factory options, tyre pressure control, traction control etc, but note that the factory lowered bike cannot be bought with the electronic control suspension. I presume this is because the it is lowered.

on tyre pressure monitor - if you are having your tyres replaced standover them while they change it - I had the bracket broken during a change!!
After 30 years of biking (all year round in UK and Ireland) this is bike has brought the enjoyment back to riding in a way I could never imagine, espically after an accident (on a Guzzi) earlier this year.
I am working my way through the screen options (like many others) before I can obtian ultimate biking pleasure!!

Is this with the low seat on it? And I wonder if they height they quote is "ride height" - meaning with a rider's weight on it.

BTW - it would be a great favor to me if you could do a few measurements:

- The rear-shock travel. This is measured from the metal (ignore the rubber bumper) where the spring seats to the metal of the shock body where the shaft goes in. Measured with the bike on the centerstand and the rear wheel off the ground.

- The front suspension travel. To measure this - you need a tie-wrap. Put a tie-wrap around one of the fork legs above the fork slider. Put it on snug enough that it can be moved easily, but stays where you move it to.

Push it down to the top of the slider, then go for a ride. Try to find some good size bumps. When you're done riding, put the bike on the centerstand, and very slightly press the rear end of the bike down so the front wheel JUST comes off the ground. Measure from the bottom of the tie-wrap to the top of the rubber seal on the fork slider. That distance will be your front suspension travel.

Thanks much if you can do this!
