I am trying to find a thermometer that fits in the top plug of the steering post - I have seen it somewhere and thought it was in the Wunderlich catalogue but no such luck. Could someone please direct me or provide an alternative solution
Thanks

I had something like that, from Formotion, but it does not work very well because it is in the direct sun. You will get very high temp readings.
I now use an aquarium thermometer with a remote sensor that I placed under the front fender. It gives a much more accurate reading of temps closer to the road surface. You can get them for $10 or less at your local pet store. It uses a battery. The only issue is that it is not backlit.

Thanks for the responses - will consider the options; like the looks of the Wunderlich but I had not taken into consideration the accuracy issue.

I bought one of the "Formotion" stick on thermometers a few years back and stuck it on my dash - between the speedo and key:

The only problem is when the bike is sitting in the sun, or sits between rides - the engine heat rises and throws off the accuracy. If I had to do it again, I'd get the same one with a tab mount. That way it would would be 'elevated' from any surface and cool off quicker once you get riding again.
Here's a pic I took with my iPhone last winter on one of my colder days:

Re: Thermometer for R1150R
I had the Formotion and it will work in the dark only. A reality but not a fault in the product. If you like to spend $ and have lots of dials , go for it! I have one of the aerostich coat zipper thermos on a zip of my tank bag(also sold by www.campmor.com for same price) and it tells you what you want to know for less $. I sold my Formation on Ebay and got enough to go out to eat from the sale! I had my Formation mounted in the exact center of the tach with 3M emblem tape as used in body shop work. Easily removable and doesn't interfere with tach reads, just a waste of money to know the temperature, not sort of a waste-REALLY! a waste! We have a thermo that came from Lee Valley Tool and I got it for my wifes kitchen sink window-neat copper case , mounts to window trim outside and swivels toward you-a neat little dial and guess what-it is just like the Formotion-tells you it is always warm when the sun is shining... go figure
