refinishing valve covers

I bought a couple used valve covers and need to find out how to re-paint them. What grit sandpaper should I use, & what type paint to use for that OEM look.

Using sandpaper you will be grinding your butt off. I suggest you get them sandblasted (or better blasted with vitrious granules). Then get them painted with any color you like. A more robust solution would be to get them powdercoated but you'll have a smaller choice of colors.
