Can anyone tell me if the BMW OEM Sport and Touring windscreens share the same mounts? I have the Sport screen, and after last evening's short ride I was covered in smashed bugs. Stopped twice in 20 miles just to clean my helmet visor so I can see. I want something taller.
I tried looking up part numbers on the RealOEM.com website, but could only find the Speedster and High screens listed for the RR.

Yes, I believe that they are the same mounts, those 4-piece ones rather than the 2-piece speedsters ones.

Yes, the OEM BMW Touring Screen and the OEM BMW Sport (or Standard) Screen use the same mounting brackets. The Fly Screen (also called the Speedster) uses different mounting brackets.
Some after market screens require different brackets, others use the same brackets as the OEM screens.

The Cee Bailey's touring screen uses the OEM mounts as well. I love being able to switch between naked, Sportster and Cee Bailey's touring depending on the weather. The switch takes 5 minutes or less.

Do you reuse the existing well nuts? Don't they tend to get stuck in place?bimrluvr wrote:The Cee Bailey's touring screen uses the OEM mounts as well. I love being able to switch between naked, Sportster and Cee Bailey's touring depending on the weather. The switch takes 5 minutes or less.

I don't know about stuck in place, I tried that little rubber grommet trick behind the windshield
to try to tip the top forward a mite to lessen buffeting, but it was mostly an exercise in futility.
Anyway, one of the well nuts came loose and the screw wouldn't screw into it. I pulled it out
and put a little dab of Gorilla Glue on it and replaced it. That stuff HOLDS!
I just ordered a CalSci tall windshield, and it takes the tall BMW touring windshield brackets.
That may be different from what you're looking at, though.
Good luck!

They're a PIA to get out, but I was able to do it about a dozen times before tearing one...I just put a plain old black rubber washer on between the shield and mount, until I can get a replacement. I also tried putting a little silicone oil on the wellnuts this time, so they should come out much easier next time. Doesn't appear to have affected their ability to stay in place.

The well nuts will tear eventually. I had to replace a couple last year, and found them at Home Depot for just over a buck each. I think it would be worth carrying a couple spares on a trip. If one came loose it would be really irritating. Just put them in your bag with the your exrta fuel disconnects, Hall sensor, clutch servo and final drive bearing.............. =)bimrluvr wrote:They're a PIA to get out, but I was able to do it about a dozen times before tearing one...I just put a plain old black rubber washer on between the shield and mount, until I can get a replacement. I don't get caught in the rain, I ride in it on purpose.
