Do your headlights bounce?

Post by Grey Thumper »

I've been noticing that the light beams from my headlights bounce up and down. Is this normal for the Rockster?

I checked the headlight adjustment thingy:

Is it supposed to be loose? What is the proper setting?

They can't hit you if you're not there.

The entire mounting is mounted in rubber - so yes they do "bounce".

But it does look like your beam adjuster is poorly set.

The tab that rotates through 90 degrees on the side of the adjuster is a quick flip switch for lowering the beam when you've got a pillion.
Non quod, sed quomodo.

Mine bounce like crazy, but I only notice it at night. It bugs me to death! I've tried rotating the tab, but it won't budge. Once I asked a BMW tech how to do it, but he also had no idea! :-k

Mine rattle a bit when they bounce. To me that is the most annoying part. I notice this at low speeds.

Mine bounce too and once it starts getting dark, I notice it most on the reflective road signs as I approach. I try to ignore it and it's not too much of an issue since I don't ride too much after dark. Too many deer here in MN. My Ducati Monster headlight was three times as bad.

My headlights bounced when I bought my 04 Rockster and it drove me nuts. What I had discovered is that the mounting points for the light casing use rubber grommets as mentioned earlier, but over time they break down. The simple fix was to place additional metal washers to allow the mounting bolts to be tightened down better. Cost a whole whopping .25 cents and it is sooooooooo much better. The guy at the BMW dealership said that is all they do when a Rockster comes in with a loose light.
