SERVICE indicator on battery disconnect
does the 'service' word on the instrument cluster always come on after you have disconnected and reconnected the battery?
i installed my warm n' safe heat-troller direct to the battery today and in doing so disconnected the battery for a few moments and now the word 'service' is showing up.
i know i can't get rid of it myself, unless anyone near pasadena, ca has a gs-911. i just wanted confirmation that it always shows up if you disconnect the battery. seems odd.

Well, all I can say is that I have disconnected the battery a few times, installed a battery tender port, charged it, and never had any warning lights come on.

Hi Crazy
the service light has always come up when I've disconected the battery. Annoying at first but after a while I don't notice it there.
Regards Mick

Mine has not come on either. I have disconnected the battery more than a few times.hjsbmw wrote:Well, all I can say is that I have disconnected the battery a few times, installed a battery tender port, charged it, and never had any warning lights come on.

Re: SERVICE indicator on battery disconnect
Just took battery out last week, charged batt. with tender, installed it yesterday, no " service" lite here.

Mine either. I have disconnected battery to wire in GPS direct to battery and did not experience any "service" or other warning lights. Since getting a service light has happened to more than one of us it would be interesting if anyone knows what causes it.hjsbmw wrote:Well, all I can say is that I have disconnected the battery a few times, installed a battery tender port, charged it, and never had any warning lights come on.
Mick, that would drive me nutsmickyt wrote:Annoying at first but after a while I don't notice it there.

Re: SERVICE indicator on battery disconnect
that is weird. it's not a 'light' per se, it's the word 'service' on the LCD section to the right between the clock and the odometer.
my bike is an 08. perhaps there was a difference in model years. i should try disconnecting it for longer and see what happens, since it was only a couple of seconds that i had it disconnected.

The '07 bikes were lucky enough not to have that "feature"..

Yep, my '08 had the service indicator come on after battery disconnect too.crazyhorse wrote:my bike is an 08. perhaps there was a difference in model years. i should try disconnecting it for longer and see what happens, since it was only a couple of seconds that i had it disconnected.
Re: SERVICE indicator on battery disconnect
I wonder if we can get this cool new feature added on to our older, woefully out of date motorcycles?

Re: SERVICE indicator on battery disconnect
Well, it may not be the manufacture date that's at fault, mine is an '09 (and a lovely shade of blue, I might add) and has exhibited no such behaviour after several battery disconnects...

I have 100% of my electric farkels hooked non can't -bus. Installing a Cen-Tech under seat fuse box (directly connected to the battery) was one of the first things I did for my bike.
