First Ride of the year..

I went out for my first ride of 2010 yesterday. It was 10C in the city bout more like 5C once I got out to the rural areas...still a nice 2 hour ride none the less. I was grinning for hours. You forget how much you were missing until you hop back on the bike. Now the big problem...fantastic weather today and predicted for the next couple of days and then cold and rainy predicted for the weekend...

It's times like these that I wish I lived somewhere else....

Not long now until it will be warm enough to ride all the time...I just hate the teaser days like we have right now

is cooperating . I can't stop smiling
FYI when the DTE says 0 miles it not

Peter, a DTE is the "distance to empty" indicator on the OBC. I once had my DTE down to 4 miles by accident. I was nervous as I wasn't too near a gas station. I try my best to fill up once the trip meter hits 200 miles.

I once had my DTE down to 4 miles by accident. I was nervous as I wasn't too near a gas station. I try my best to fill up once the trip meter hits 200 miles.

Man, you guys are brave. I'd never trust that thing to give me any accuracy below 10 miles one way or another.

As a side note, been riding my dual sport lately - not having a gas gauge (or a tach - yikes!) is like going back to the stone age! I adjusted quickly enough, but fumbling for the fuel petcock with a dying bike in heavy traffic - what a blast from the past! I felt really spoiled getting back on the 12R this morning!

FWIW my computer acted psycho once... I have run down to 10 miles and put over 5 gallons into the tank. One memorable trip to a Riders Edge class I was teaching as lead instructor, at 15 miles indicated, the engine started sputtering 5 miles from the exit, and I dead stick landed at the gas station at the end of the exit ramp. My general rule is at 210 miles start looking and ignore the computer.

I'm an 'Ol Henderson baby myself - when a job opened in Houston we were down here like a shot

Ofcourse summers is like the new winter - sux to be outside sometimes

And then there are days like today - leave early and load the dirt bikes for 5 days play in Big Bend......

My first ride of the year was 1/1/10.. and then a gap of about 3 weeks of SNOW..and a few short local rides. Finally got out this Sunday and got 200 miles in..

But - today was my first ride to work day for '10.. usually I wait until daylight savings kicks in (this weekend..) but it was just too nice this morning (42F, with prediction of 54F this afternoon.) Great ride to work, dodging potholes adds some entertainment to it

I would love to ride to work....but it does not make any logical sense. In the summer I ride my bicycle and in the winter I walk or take the bus. I only live 3 km from my job. But the time I get my gear on and get the bike out of the garage I could be there on my bicycle. Plus they charge us $70/month for parking and I have a basic issue with paying to park where I work.

My riding is limited to evenings and weekends and of course vacation..

The funny thing is that I got my motorcycle licence so I could ride to work to save money on gas when I had a 50km commute. But I changed jobs so I never actually got to use my bike as a commuter. I rode to a couple of offsite meetings one summer but that was it.
