Scuffed Pannier Lids

I have had my 1200R, from new, for nearly four years and have done 28.000 miles in all weathers. I have just given it a thorough clean and am, once again, pleased to see how well it has kept, the paint work is unmarked and the metal work is not showing any deterioration.

However I can not get some minor scuff marks out of the pannier lids. I know that this is a recurring theme and would love to hear from any one who has a simple solution to this problem.
