ESA Retrofit Possible ?
Can a 2010 R1200R be retrofitted with ESA ?
Can a dealer do this ?
Can it be a DIY project ?

Re: ESA Retrofit Possible ?
Yes -Yes - Yes but it most likely would be cheaper (more cost effective) to buy a new bike.

Re: ESA Retrofit Possible ?
Actually - no, no and no.. because BMW won't sell you the code needed to turn it on in the ZFE..
As Harry said - cheaper to buy a new bike that has it. Some people who have it end up eventually putting on regular good shocks.
That said - some of the aftermarket shock vendors are coming up with their own systems that do more then ESA does.. Hyperpro has one system in the works, and I imagine others will be available.

Re: ESA Retrofit Possible ?
Correct me if I'm wrong.....it appears the Hyperpro is something you plug into an existing BMW ESA system. Or, is it a completely seperate system (including shock) which is installed on a non-ESA bike equipped ?

Then I'd suggest contacting Klaus (the importer) directly. You can use my name (might be worth a small discount - we're old friends..)

Re: ESA Retrofit Possible ?
Hi Rick: Let me see if I can explain...
One is the Hyperpro ESA ADJUSTER.
This is a device with plug and play installation, that is connected into the wiring harness of the ESA shocks found on current BMW models. It will allow the user to set his/her individual level of COMFORT-NORMAL or SPORT setting. You dial up either one of the three on the ESA touch panel and then fine tune the setting on the Hyperpro adjuster to your personal preference. You push the button "SET" and all is ready, everytime you select either one of the three it will adjust automatically to the individual adjusted level.
This device is available for the rear as well as for the front shock for the R 1200 GS and ADV. Not for the RT yet - at least last time I checked.
The other items are the Hyperpro shocks that can be made ESA compatible by transfering the ESA adjusters from the OEM shocks to the new Hyperpro shocks. This is available for R 1200 GS and ADV as well as for the R 1200 RT and also to the K 1300 S/R and GT. Others will follow. We have done a few of these installs!
These shocks will be custom built to the riders specs. They can be ordered for a lower ride height and also with adjustable compression damping (high and low speed) for the GS,ADV and RT. The compression damping adjustment here is a manual adjustability, not ESA. The K bikes have ESA compression adjustment
Complete ESA shocks will follow at years end.
I will post this on the web as well. Thanks for the note. Peter

do all r1200r's have wiring provisions for esa?
i would guess this is the case... cheaper to manufacture one harness version for all bikes.

Re: do all r1200r's have wiring provisions for esa?
Asuuming you mean the main wiring harness - that's incorrect. BMW has been imfamous for making wiiring harnesses that ONLY have the wiring and connectors needed for the specific bike being built (they normally do include the wiring and connectors for accessories the dealer might install - like the alarm connector and GPS connector on ALL R12R's.) Other then that - if the bike wasn't built with something - the harness won't support it. That isn't the case with ASC being added since it's only a software change to the ABS and ECU brains.goo wrote:i would guess this is the case... cheaper to manufacture one harness version for all bikes.
