My new Parabellum Scout will be here in 2 weeks
after 8000 miles I finally sprung for the parabellum scout faring. I was using a Zetechnic cut down by 4". I am hoping to get
a little more wind protection for the upcoming cold months. Does anyone have experience installing these. just wondering what I am in for.

Close your eyes and presto, it is done. Charlie P. at Parabellum has very good detailed installation documents.

Those of you that have one--how do you like your Scout? Would you be willing to post pictures?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Re: My new Parabellum Scout will be here in 2 weeks
As Don would say 'Search is your friend' try parabellum or scout. I like mine, in fact I have two. I bounced my bike down the road on the fairing and saddlebag. The fairing suffered a few scratches, the mounting brackets suffered no harm but my insurance company paid for a new fairing. Not being one to argue I put the old one (after fixing it) in the attic, it's NOT for sale.tspaulding wrote:Those of you that have one--how do you like your Scout? I wonder how Mike made out with his???

Re: My new Parabellum Scout will be here in 2 weeks
I love my parabellum. It gave me the the protection I was looking for in cold weather. I will buy the short sport shield for the warmer temps. My only complaint is the mounting hardware some what flimsey for what the thing cost. I will post pics later.

Re: My new Parabellum Scout will be here in 2 weeks
The mounting hardware is minimal but entirely sufficient. I've run mine into triple digits with the big windshield on and their were no vibrations, also when I went down (broadsided in a traffic circle (rotary)) the fairing took a good hit (saving the instrument package) and the mounting hardware didn't bend.
I do get some very slight vibration at idle where the driving lights are mounted, most likely because of the weight of the light, but I couldn't resist mounting them on those flat spots that look like they were made for driving lights.

Re: My new Parabellum Scout will be here in 2 weeks
The more I look at these, the more I am tempted by it. I ride the bike sans-screen around town, but I really like smooth and quiet on longer trips. The CalSci screen is ok, but the air coming up and under is problematic for me.
Lotta money to spend sight-unseen and un-tested. Does anybody know of a R12R owner in the top half of California somewhere with one of these screens? With an insurance endorsement card and a gift card to Cyclegear, I'm hoping to tempt somebody to allow me a short test ride.

Re: My new Parabellum Scout will be here in 2 weeks
FYI: Included in the mounting kit are brackets to move the headlight forward 2/3 inches. I bought mine when they first came out (sight unseen) and couldn't visualize the fairing on the bike. The angle of the wind screen seemed like it would put the top of the screen right in your face, the trick is they just moved the headlight forward.
It's not obvious so I thought I'd mention it for someone that might be interested.

Re: My new Parabellum Scout will be here in 2 weeks
Can any of you Scout owners provide some feedback regarding wind protection and rider comfort?
I suppose the benchmark would be an RT; let's call that a 10. I had a GS with an Aeroflow screen...if an RT is a 10, that GS was an 8.5. Very smooth at the head and shoulders.
I'd rate my R with the oem touring screen a 5; with the CalSci it's a 6.
How would you rate your Scout setups?

It's hard to be objective about a fairing/windshield, best I can do is to say with a Corbin seat and bar backs mine is just what I wanted and I don't regret spending the money for it.

Re: My new Parabellum Scout will be here in 2 weeks
Sorry, no photo but I ordered mine unpainted and found a local guy who did a great job - black with white pinstripe reminiscent of the old airheads. The most time-consuming part of the installation was aiming the headlight. I too notice some vibration at idle, but it's easy to ignore. This fairing was the best farkel hands down. I can ride at both ends of the season without my Gerbing jacket. Much less buffeting helps my endurance. You'll love it.
Re: My new Parabellum Scout will be here in 2 weeks
To Harry Costello: I'd be interested in details of your mounting driving lights to the Scout. I've had the same thought about those flat spots providing a good placement site.

Re: My new Parabellum Scout will be here in 2 weeks
I used the Piaa 004xt lamp set. It comes with everything you need, lamps, wiring harness, relay and switch, makes for a clean installation. I won't get into the details of the wiring because it's been gone over a bunch of times on this board. I used these lights because they are very light (some sort of plastic) and I didn't want to hang anything heavy on the fairing. Here's a link to someone selling the kit BUT shop around the price varies a great deal:

Their is a 35w AND A 55w (I think for cars) kit, I used the 35W one.

Re: My new Parabellum Scout will be here in 2 weeks
Does anyone want to take a stab at answering Contramoto's question of rating the comfort, wind effect etc. of the Scout? If the RT is a ten where do you guys think the Scout makes this machine. I know it is a naked bike, but some of us have purchased it because it is smaller and lighter than the bulky RT yet still want as much of that comfort as we can get. I am 5'8" with a 28 inseam and am much more comfortable on my R than the RT from a handling standpoint, but have been fighting the screen battle like everybody else and am thinking the Scout might be the answer.
Thanks for your thoughts.

Re: My new Parabellum Scout will be here in 2 weeks
I only have 1 other shield to compare my scout to it was the Zetecnik. over 45 mph the buffeting was awful. I don't experience any buffeting with the scout. It improved the level of protection dramatically for me. I think a hannigan would probably be better, if you don't mind the looks.

I've been satisfied with the Scout though only had sport screen to compare. Good protection with no buffeting. I'm 5-6 so got 16" screen so I could look over, not thru. Can tuck down in rain behind tank bag and stay dry on top. With no lowers, legs get wet. I'm having it and luggage painted to match tank as we speak. Eager to see how it looks.
