1997 R1100R Handle bars and holders

Post by want2b »

Need assistance.
Does anyone have any advice on changing the handle bars and holders on a 1997 R1100R?
My bike has heated hand grips and I believe that the wires go through the I.D. of
the existing handle bars? I have found a supplier for replacement bar holders and handle bars but I am
at a loss of how to deal with the wire for the heated hand grips.

Thanks for your advice.

I have done this myself on my R. You need to remove the tank. When removing the tank mark the fuel lines so you're able to attach the correct lines again when done). Under the tank locate the 2 connectors for the heated grips and detach. If you like fiddling I suggest you fiddle to small contacts out of the plastic connectors. If you do not like to do this simply cut the wires (you need to crimp them together again when mounting your stuff).

Remove the handlebars, remove the handles and carefully drag the cables out of your handlebars. Do the same in reverse order, connect the cables again, isolate the wires / connections and your done.

Took me a good hour to get this done.
