I mounter a Givi E340 on the Beemer rack.
OK awesome! I see multiple sites that sell GIVI in the USA. Where can you buy Shad cases here? I really like the look of Shad and Givi, but I can't figure out how to price Shad since I can't find a dealer...

Sean - take a good look at the 'Shad' stuff they are comparable to the 'Givi' in quality and price - EXCEPT for one thing. You have to have the key in the Givi to just latch it, while on the Shad you only need the key if you want to lock it. Not a big thing but with the Givi you can leave the key in the lock (very obvious) or carry it (and risk losing it), while with the Shad you can just latch it and who's to know it's not locked.
Somewhere in the info on this list (or a Google search) will get you a place in the US that carries the Shad stuff. I didn't know it existed until after I bought the Givi.

I use a couple bungie cords over my briefcase, riding on my passenger seat.

I understand top cases come standard on LT's - just an observation from the naked fringe.

I think we've established that top cases are butt ugly ---- BUT quite a bit more secure (and waterproof) than a bungie over a briefcase. If I wanted pretty I'd be on a black Road King Classic.
