Gear repair question.... Burned textile jacket. #%+&$!!!

Post by aja1739 »

Rode The Dragon twice this weekend, and left nothing for the Tree of Shame, thank goodness. However, I pulled a real bonehead move when I got back. Instead of waiting for the bike to cool, I went ahead and put the lock on the front wheel and managed to burn (melt, actually) a hole in my Rev'It Air jacket when it touched the header. Stupid! #-o

Does anyone here have any experience getting a textile jacket mended, patched, or otherwise repaired? If so, I'd be grateful for your advice and/or experience.

Thanks!

Yeah, I'm planning on asking my cleaners for a recommendation. Also going to touch base with the dealer as well. Heard of a place in Seattle that repairs gore-Tex, but I'd rather have it done locally if possible to avoid the shipping delays and all. I just friggin hate it when I think, "you know, I probably shouldn't do this..." and then do it anyway, only to have something like this happen. Oh well. Live and learn, I guess.

How'd the Air jacket do in the heat? I've had my eye on that one.

Love the Air jacket! It breathes nicely - a little moreso now in the left elbow area. ;) But I would receommend it. Mine will just have a little character now, I guess.

OH Man!
you came to the right place

Been there done that, but with the Rev'It Ultimate pants, on a nearly 0 mph get off scraped both knees through to the padding.

I called the RevIt 800 number, got it from the web.
They recommended a place in Seattle, I believe, that repairs their stuff.
I was surprised by the thinness of the material over the knees and when I spoke with them I asked if they could use something more durable.
Yes, the could and would

$95 for a great repair. fairly quick turnaround. Call them. Hope is not lost! I would not trust such expensive fine clothing to anyone else.

Duct tape.

;)

(seriously - I repaired a water-proof Hein Gericke jacket that I'd slid down the road lightly in with duct tape. It was only damaged on the left forearm, but I managed to get a piece of tape over the tear in the waterproof membrane, and then taped up the outer. It was still waterproof about 4 years later. )
