Head lamp...now tail light!

Well I suppose when it rains...
I rode in to work today thinking at lunch I would hop on over to the auto parts store to get my new bulbs for my head lamp when at a light, a very nice motorist pulls up next to me and informs me that my brake/tail light is out as well. Ok, great. So I guess I will pick that up as well when I go get my head lamp bulb.

Here's the thing. I have been seriously thining about adding more lights to the front of the bike and getting a modulator for the brake light. Can anyone suggest a HID kit or a product(s) they are using that they are happy with? One complete with mounts? I would love to be able to install these things myself but I'm still not brave enough to mess with the electrical stuff on my bike so I guess I will have to get the dealer to do it. This is the first bike I have owned with a single headlight and single brake light and I'm just not comfy with having them alone. Not that I would go out an buy another Wing for that but I got spoiled with all the lights...

I added Skene Design's P3 lights on either side of the license plate and amber LEDs to the forks. It seemed fewer cars unexpectedly pulled out in front of me after I added the front LEDs. I also swapped out the incandescent OEM tail light for the LED version, and Harry Costello said the LED was bright as all get out, even in daylight. The Skene gear comes with everything you need to install. If you can follow printed directions, you can do it.

Which LED bulb did you use for your tail light?
and has it been playing nice with canbus?

Be aware that Bill swapped out the whole tail light assembly for an OEM LED assembly and the total cost is in the three 'C" note range. But it does work very well.

I'm using a Kisan Tailblazer. That works well but not as well as Bills OEM assembly.

Check out OEM LED tail light install details here. I got the idea from R12R riders Tr250Tom and Talon Six. Got a LAMP error after plugging in the LED tail light, likely because of reduced power draw. (The computer thinks a bulb is out.)

It cost $78 to have the dealer clear the error — an expensive electronic handshake, indeed. At the time, the GS-911 was ineffective at clearing the LAMP.

Did you check the operation of the bulb? Reason I ask - the ZFE body module is supposed to switch the bulb over so one filament (it has two normally) does the work of both, by dropping the voltage to the good filament to work as a running light, and then increasing the voltage when you use the brake. This should happen automatically with no user intervention required. It will turn on the LAMP warning when it does this. I'm wondering - which bulb is out on your headlight? The top one is the lowbeam and the bottom one is the highbeam (but both are on for highbeam..)

If you bring it to tomorrow's NJS meeting, I can take a looksee at it.. if you bought the bulb(s) it takes only a few minutes to change them.

Since it isn't supposed to rain, a lot of members will be riding (some, me usually, still come on the bike in rain, but we only have a few who come in snow.. )

I was able to swing over to CCBMW in Metuchen after work and got it all sorted out. The culprit all along was the tail/brake light. The bulb did go so they installed a new one. This was only after the auto parts store by work gave me the wrong bulb (even though I brought the manual to the guy at the parts counter and showed him the one I needed).
So when my students asked why the seat was off my bike and parts of the back end off, I told them that their project in drivers ed this year was going to be to replace all the stock lights on my bike with LEDs and that I was just doing some research. Good cover, huh? Since I am the drivers ed teacher, a few of them fell for it and are actually excited...

And yes Don, I am going to do my best to come by tomorrow. Looking forward to picking your brain about some things (especially how to mount those Hellas)!

I believe he solved that problem close to 8 months ago..
