Petrol pouring from breather pipe

Post by jdm »

This morning I filled up with fuel and road about a mile home. I parked the bike on an up slope and petrol poured from the breather pipe. It stopped after about 30 secs and it seemed to help when parking on a flat surface. Is there a link between a full tank and the fact that I parked facing up hill or is there something more sinister going on?

Thanks

Most likely, if you brimmed it, is that cold fuel entering the tank from underground storage warmed up and expanded, hence the overflow. Has happened to me when I parked in strong sunshine soon after a fill. Caused a certain amount of worry to passers by!

Must be nice riding in the Island...

Thanks for that. I did brim it. Took it out again for about 20 miles and no problems. Yes, a lovely day for a blast over the mountain.

The only time you can brim it is if you are on a long trip and you just do a fill and go, or you put 30/48 Mi/km after the fill. Otherwise it is very likely to overflow.
