Sorry to hear about the loss of you friend. I to get extreme pleasure from riding and farkeling my bikes. I do not want to imagine life without riding, however infrequently I get out there. I'll be 68 this year and I get giddy looking forward to every ride and the people I will meet. Motorcycling has expanded my horizons both mentally and literally. You are presented with such beauty and sensory excitement every time you ride. The temperature change when you ride over a creek or into a valley, the smells of lilacs and spring flowers, the smell of cornfields in summer, the joy of riding in a snow flurry, seeing a rainbow from end to end. Wow! Remember the great days your friend had on the bike. All the best.

Condolences to you and your friend's family.

I like what was said about risk/reward. Riding is great, but I understand anyone hanging it up for their own good reasons. There are other things to life too and in the end it's entirely personal.

Some years back I rode to my doctor's surgery in my bike gear and we both discovered we loved bikes and out of weird coincidence each had the same bike - BMW K1200LT and from that point on we became great friends and went riding together. Every time I needed to pay my doctor a visit, we talked about bike first and then why I went to see him about an injury or illness. He was a great doctor and friend. 9 Month's ago he got diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer and he died last month. A great loss and there's not a time that goes by when I get on my bike that I don't remember him. Biking brought us closer and he was more than just my doctor. I often think how would I rather die - accident or illness. I would rather die knowing that I lived life to the fullest and I love biking.

Another story. When I first started work for a bank aged 19, a colleague of the same age used to ride back and forth to work every day. One day he went out with his friends as a passenger in a car and was ironically killed in a crash. After that I thought do you what you enjoy - you just don't know what's round the corner to meet you next.

Remember your friend well.
