I've scraped pegs with the stock Metzelers. Thanks for all the responses. I only asked because I ride this thing pretty hard(crotch rocket hard). As I said before I like the conti's, the pr3's sound good but I might try the pirelli diablo corsa 2's. A couple of friends have them on their bikes and they do good on our mountain days.

I'll take the Pirelli Angel ST's on my R1200R (single compound). Nice in curves and in the rain. now 9 K on it. This season going true

Put new PR3's on my 12R last fall the day before it went to toy storage for the winter, so no experience on our bike. Rented an RT with brand new PR3's on it last week in Arizona; a thousand miles of twisties, rain, snow and Northern Canadian temperatures. I wore off all of the mold jumblies, had a fairly substantial two wheel drift on a graveled corner and the tires performed flawlessly. They made me look good. I highly recommend.

I put a pr2 on the front to match the rear. With the wheel out I thought I would wash the mudguard, polish it and the fork legs. There were only six bolts holding the mudguard on but the bottom bolt that screws into a lug on the fork sheared off flush with the lug
. "Oh dear," I thought (a loose translation you understand). Being cackhanded (technologically inept) I couldn't get a pilot hole centred on the broken bolt, so I got a mate to come and have a go for me. We eventually got a hole threaded after breaking off a stud extractor and two twist drills. So tomorrow I'll get it all reassembled.

Is that the consensus, i.e. use the regular version and not the "B"? Yep, coming up on 10k km on my regular PR3's, and I'm a heavy guy probably atleast 130kg with gear, wearing just fine, plenty of rubber left just the back tire starting to get a little flat in the middle.

I use the regular RP3's also. My third set is sitting in the garage ready to go on. I'm getting over 10K miles out of the rear and it would most likely go 12K but I have a trip coming up. I change both tires at the same time so I'm throwing out the front tire with only half the rubber gone. I'm 210 lbs and most of the miles are with an additional 50 Lbs of camping gear on board.
My drag racing days are over so I don't come off the lights hard, but I do like to use the tires in the curves. Even with the eventual flat spot caused by 10K miles the right to left transition is still stable and the tires never lost the feeling of confidence, even when taking them to the edge.
Now if they only had a little more sideways traction in the gravel and sand they would be the perfect tire.

+1. Love the REGULAR PR3's. I am slightly heavier than Harry (240+) and carry about the same weight. Few more thousand miles and I'm 100% satisfied. Might not be as soft as the OEM for cornering... have a S1000RR on order for that!

I had Farmers insurance until fairly recently. They consider the R1200R to be a "superbike" because it's over 100 HP. The one thing you never hear about PR3s is the effect they have on the rider following you
I followed a VFR Vtec with PR3s in France, in the rain and I can personally attest that the PR3 displaces all the road water, collects it into the sipes and then hurls it backwards at the guy behind.
So if the guy following you backs off when it starts raining, it's got nothing to do with your wet riding prowess

I've just passed 10k km's on my PR3's with plenty of thread left, but while pondering if I should just get the same next time I began to wonder if anyone has any experience with the Metzeler Z8's on the R?
