Left footpeg rubber trashed @ 8.5k - options for pegs?

The rubber on my left peg is falling apart. It's torn loose and needs to be replaced. It's such a small thing that I feel a little silly posting about it - but on the other hand I've put way more miles on lots of other bikes and haven't run into this. Anyway, the rubber part of the peg has a little flat piece of metal going through it and that's torn through, leaving the rubber piece in a less-than-secure state - not cool.

I actually move around on my pegs quite a bit, including standing on 'em when necessary. I'd been thinking about something more aggressive, and while I'm sure the dealer will replace this as a warranty thing, this sort of reinforces the idea that I need better pegs.

I looked at the fiches and can't tell if the GS pegs will fit - it looks like they pivot at a different, but it could just be the drawings. Anyone tried GS pegs or these LSLs from Touratech? Any other options? I'd love somehting with some real grip, and yeah I know the rubber is there to damp vibration too. I'll eventually go figure it out for myself but wanted to see if anyone else had replaced their pegs with something besides a lowering kit. Thanks!

Same problem here. When my bike is packed for touring I can't get my leg over the stuff without standing on the left peg and doing a pivot to get mounted. This rips the rubber from the metal bracket its bonded to. You can swap the rubber part (02 46 71 7 686 039 $20.35 ea) from the rear pegs to the front, which I've done, but I'm sure over time they will also rip.

The Tourtech ones might not be comfortable on a long haul and the other ones are -- well their made in China??

Same thing happened to me. I found it it's from mounting the bike while it's on the center-stand. I just bought a replacement: $20 from Lone Star BMW in Austin Texas.

The fact that BMW shows a new part number kind of indicates something was wrong with the old design. If your still under warranty I would try to get them to put the new ones on (at least on the front).

This sounds like a major design flaw from BMW! Similar to the ABS units and the final drives. We need to start a class action suit against BMW for the faulty rubber on the foot pegs. Where is Wild Pig when we need him.

Have have those pegs on my lowering kit. Works just fine.

On my previous bike a F800ST which have the same pegs as the R I swapped out the worn rubbers. Easy 5-10min job. New rubbers are also pretty cheap if I recall correctly. And yes, the new rubbers are much better and doesn't wear like the originals do.

When my left side rubber thingy started to get worn out around 50,000 miles, I believe from standing while riding on dirt, I just swapped it with the rubber thingy on the right passenger peg.

On my 2012 model these footpegs are not interchangeable rear and front. You can't really take the rubber from the rear one and put it up on front either as they are not fastened with screws but with these rivets. And if i did exchange them front to back, guess how many miles I'll put up on them before those fail? And then i'm buying 4 pegs

If my bike had 50K miles on it when it failed I'd probably never bother with it. But i got 10X less the millage. And I don't usually do any offroading. I do, however, stand up on my bike once in a while to stretch.

When you guys say "new footpeg" what do you mean exactly? Cuz i think i got the latest model of a bike so far, not sure if they came up with newer pegs since then.

Lost, you know my service manager here in Countryside, IL. I don't think I'll get much of help from him on any warranty related issue.

Yeah, no lawsuit required. I'd been thinking about pegs with more grip (I stand on the pegs quite a bit as well) and thought I'd see what the group has to offer.

Good to hear the new rubbers are better - I'm sort of assuming they'll get replaced as a warranty thing. But even if they're not, they're cheap enough that it doesn't matter. It's just lame.

Those "titanium-colored" pegs are the ones I linked to in my OP. You notice the vibration any more than with the stock rubber pegs?

I thought about those as well. No idea how it'd feel on the street to have the pegs moving around as I'm shifting my weight in turns. How do they feel in the twisties on the street?

They feel excellent all around. I like the pivoting action, allows me to wear very stiff boots for best protection and not struggle to shift fast.
Zero slipping of the boot on the pegs, one thing that can be a problem when riding in the rain with the OEM rubber ones.
It's a different slightly more fluid feel when riding with Pivot Pegs, but I likey.
With 3 bikes in the family and a DS bike that needs a big pricey gas tank, a new camera I want, etc etc, buying pegs for my R is low on the list, but if I were going to, I would buy these again, this time for the R.

This week is sorta crazy for me, but if I get my R back from Bazzaz in time I'll try and see if the ones off the GS will fit, I'm leaving Friday for Mexico though so it might have to wait until I get back.

Thank you sir! No worries if you can't get to it - last time I was in SF BMW I think they had a set. I have to go in to see if they'll replace my rubber and I'll just see if they'll let me hold 'em up to my bike.

I fixed my problem with the rubber on the pegs tearing up. Bought the RT. Problem solved.

So dealer says rubbers are wear and tear, never mind that they shouldn't be wearing out in less than 10k. Whatever. No Pivot Pegz in stock, and the guys didn't seem to think pegs from a GS would fit, PP or otherwise. So I ordered new rubbers and email Pivot Pegs. Based on quick comparisons of GS and R pegs in the showroom, it does appear that the mounts on the GS pegs are slightly wider. Maybe I'll bring a micrometer next time and see what I can figure out.
