Great, thanks! I was wondering if they "detuned" the bike after putting it on the computer and reading the results with the plug in.Fjm wrote:I left the Booster Plug on at my last service. No issues with the BMW service manager.

Re: Booster Plug
My 2008 R1200GS is driving me crazy with its burbling/popping on decelleration and its sluggish throttle response at low revs.
My dealer says there's nothing wrong with it and after a major 24k service it STILL does all this. If you're one of these people who "like the popping/banging on decelleration" then please don't bore me with this opinion because I DON'T and it didn't do it when I first bought it with 11k miles.
So anyway, suggestions as to how to solve this would be great but would the BoosterPlug help?????
PS I do love this bike but it's due to get a divorce because of this.

Re: Booster Plug
First we have to assume that the bike is absolutely stock no one has fooled with (modified) the timing or exhaust.
Then go for valve adjustment (should have been done at service) and then do a throttle body sync. After my 18K service I checked my throttle body adjustment and it was not correct, a simple adjustment and the bike ran much better. Checked a few times after that but it doesn't seem to change, which makes me wonder if it was ever done in the first place.

Re: Booster Plug
There is no timing adjustment.. it's all done by computers.. but good suggestion on checking the valves and the TB balance.
In my experience (I think I have about 100 more miles then Harry - 60,300 or so right now) - I've never had to adjust the TB balance. With the valves adjusted correctly - it's always dead nutz on. Doesn't seem to ever change. That's nice after having airheads and the R11xx bikes, where it often changed.

I don't know if the booster plug will help or not.
I do know the first thing to look for is fresh air getting into the exhaust anywhere. This can be checked by holding a rag over the out. It should stall the engine or slow it down. Listen for leaks. It may take two people.
Do you still have the catalytic converter? I took mine out (2000 R1100RT). It no longer burns the excess fuel so it does pop on decel. Not going to mess with it on my R1200R.

Re: Booster Plug
Most if not all modern fuel injected engines cut off ALL FUEL on deceleration if working properly. I know my 1986 K75C does, my 2002 M Coupe does, and my 2011 R1200R does....so should your BMW.colinshotts wrote:My 2008 R1200GS is driving me crazy with its burbling/popping on decelleration and its sluggish throttle response at low revs.

Re: Booster Plug
My 2000 RT shuts the fuel off.
I AM one who likes it and holds a little throttle on so it does it. It sounds
like the exhaust on my Airhead.
99 Dodge truck shuts the fuel off, 011 Kawasaki Versys....
Just watch the MPG meter if you have one. It goes WAY up (199 mpg) coasting. Once the engine slows down or the clutch is pulled in it drops back down while still coasting. (75 mpg) Fuel is back on.
I don't think my bike needs a booster plug. I put a Techlusion on my R1100RT. It needed it and ran better with it.
