Cutting out
Hey everyone, how's it going? So, I am having a little bit of a problem with my 2004 1150r with about 50,000 miles on her. It all started after I got my bike back from the shop after having a new clutch put in, meaning everything basically had to be taken apart. I will explain what happens- I would be going down the free way at about 70/ 75 miles an hour and sometimes when i would go to give it the throttle the engine would cut out and the bike would kind of surge forward. It would do this a couple times, bogging down, then revving again, etc then after a couple times doing this, all would be fine. It has happened several times doing this. I notice it the most when I am at about 4500 rpm or so, drop it down a gear then accelerate.. Trying to pass, etc. The bike just wants to bog down, then gets power again, then bogs down. It has also happened to me once when leaving a parking lot at low speed, coming to a stop. I am wondering if it has something to do with the coil, or maybe the kill switch. Besides the time in the parking lot it has always happened on open road cruising over 70, or when aggressively give it the throttle. If you have any suggestions, or ideas, please throw them my way. Thanks. (bogging down/ cutting out go hand in hand- not sure if it is a loss of fuel or loss of electrical power)
Re: Cutting out
Exact thing happened to my r12 exactly as described ... it was a bad coil. I changed out the fuel filter, sea foam in the gas tank, etc. I finally took it to the dealership and they dx/repaired and now it purrs.mclarenracer02 wrote:Hey everyone, how's it going? Re: Cutting out
angellr, do you know if they replaced both stick coils, or just the one that controls lower spark? The separate stick coils are about $137 a piece, and the one by itself for lower is $121. I might have to go and get those replaced the end of this week and see what I can do about it.

Not sure which one they replaced, but I paid for 1 to be replaced.mclarenracer02 wrote:angellr, do you know if they replaced both stick coils, or just the one that controls lower spark?
