Dilligraf - I own an '02 BMW 325i sedan. So I know what you're talking about. You've got more power in your 3.0 liter however.

BMW makes fantastic cars despite what Bangle has done. My next car will most likely either be a 330i sedan or 540i.

In gassing up today, I noticed my gas bills are approaching 15 dollars

Do you want to put the cheapest gas in your Beemer? Most owners of premium vehicles, cars included use only name brand gas like Mobil, Exon as these fuels have detergents that are good for the engine.

If you're using a higher octane gas than the manual specifies, and/or higher than your engine actually needs, you could be buying cheaper gas and saving dough.

During the first East Coast Beakster Bash, I put 87 octane gas from the "Tail of the Dragon" motel at Deal's Gap in my Roadster just to see what she would do. For general cruising/interstate droning, she didn't mind it one bit. Rev 'er high however, and boy did she complain. I usually go for one of the name-brand stations and feed her 92 minimum.

I was using 92-93 octane then the gas prices went ballistic, so on the last tank i thought i'd try 89. I went on a poker run saturday with the 89 in my tank, the temp outside was about 94 deg. All was well for the first hour or so, soon i noticed the bike starting a slight knock from stop lights, at one point during a hard launch(i only had one beer, i swear) it knocked so bad i thought i would look down and see a rod sticking out the side of the cylinder!
It's back with 92-93oct for me!

we're currently paying around 92.9pence per litre here (that's what i paid this morning).

that's about £15-£17 UK for a fill up of roughly 160 miles (guessing here).

or... 15 UK Sterling = 27.22 US Dollar

wow......that's about $6.75 a gallon.....(litre is a bit more than a court).

Consider how many motorcycles in the 1200 cc range with the R capabilities givew you 45 mpg to 50 mpg.......hmmmm.....none come to mind...

I often wonder how much gas is left in the hose of the pump from the previous customer, when I am supposed to be pumping in premium gas. There must be at least a gallon of gas in the hose. Anyone know anything about how gas pumps work?
I always feel I am pumping in a gallon of regular which was left in the hose from the previous customer, while I am paying for premium. Just a little paranoid I guess.

I saw a show a while back on just that subject, maybe Two Wheel Tuesday or something similar. They stated that the average pump hose assembly holds around 1/2 gal of what ever the person before you used. While not a problem for cars it can be for motorcycles, especially those with "peanut" tanks where 1/2 gal can literally be 1/2 of the tanks volume!
