DynoJet Power Commander now available for Rockster

For those who wants to squeeze out that little last bit of oomph, rejoice, the PC III is now available for your bike.
I'm calling up my local tuner and see if they can order one and schedule me in for installation.

According to the Power Commander website, it gets you the box. There will still be installation and/or tuning costs to go with, unless you do the same yourself. Tuning is a breeze, just takes a laptop. Not sure about install on R bikes but can't imagine it's too difficult.big papa wrote:And what does $500 get you??
But for $500, they should bring it to your house, install it and map it for you. Wow. HD model is only $360. Wonder why such a difference?
Stupidity should be painful.

Yes, it bypasses the brain for the EFI.DJ Downunder wrote:Dose it by-pass the brain for the electronic fuel injection?...and make quicker adjustments...better fuel econimy...less surge...more power.
Not sure about quicker adjustments.
Absolutely will not increase fuel economy, actually the opposite. The PCs add fuel across the powerband so your fuel consumption will increase. Power takes fuel.
As for how noticeable the increase is, I'm not sure. It will also depend on whether you have a less restrictive intake and exhaust installed. In order to increase ponies, you need to have more air coming in to mix with the fuel for combustion. To balance that, you need to exhaust more air as well.
Aaaahhh, that is the $64K question.Who's the guinea pig.
Not it.
Stupidity should be painful.

I'm a true believer that everyone has the right to do as they so choose. However in this case I must warn all of you considering the PC to not waste your money.
I have yet to see one dyno run that shows anything that will support that type of expenditure.........if you want to be the guinea pig go ahead but let's learn from the experience.
Put the unmodified bike on the dyno, get a printout of HP, Torque and A/F ratio, then have the PC installed and get another dyno run. Share the results.
Good luck.......

First of all, there had never been a real BMW PC. People have been using Ducati PCs for BMWs and maybe that's why they don't work out worth a damn.
The PC seems to work great for other bikes, so why not BMW?
I'll be the guinea pig. It's only money. And I'll keep you guys updated. I already have the full Remus system, and I'll add the K&N filter to the bike as well. The Remus already made a difference and that's only Y-pipe and exhaust can.
You guys know very well that the R bikes are running lean as hell. The PC should be able to correct that issue. And if you've seen my Rockster dyno post here, you will notice that the power band is pretty crappy and definitely could use some serious improvements.

There are two things that are well documented within the R259 Boxer series.......
A) The Motronic 2.x series is a very rudimentary ECU, with limited imputs and as a result, equally limited range of adjustment.
B) With external mods, on out bikes, one is limited to a 8% to 10% increase, period. I'm talking about can. cat eliminator, Techlusion and 3 degree advance. Most of the gain comes by way off driveability, added smoothenes and much crisper roll on, albeit a 2 to 3 mpg loss.
The easiest way to explain the issue, is that the PC can't control the fuel delivery of the Motronic ECU, that is why they replace the oxygen sensor with a quick response one and try to adjust the A/F based on the O2 output.....unfortunately the controlling events are on the tail end of the process, see what I mean?
So in closing you can certainly become the guinea pig, however, before you shell out the $500 pkus installation and tunning call the PC folks and ask them to provide you with a outside dyno run of a stock bike and one with the PC installed and tuned.........Chris of SJBMW was fooling around with the PC, before DynoJet thought about intoducing one for the BMW Boxer.....never saw any dyno runs either. I posted over 1 1/2 yars ago on the PC issues and nothing has changed.......
I do ask of you to keep me posted if you decide to take the plunge....I would also like to see your dyno run, did you post? or can you email to me......

I'll keep you guys updated as the PC gets installed and tuned on the Rockster. If it works, then great, if not, then chalk it up to lesson learned instead of wondering and theorizing.
Just scroll down the page a bit and see my post on the Rockster's dyno sheet.
Even if I don't gain significant power; which is not what the PC does, if I could get better throttle response and better power delivery throughout the RPM, that's a bonus in its own right.

Interestingly enough, I just got a call from my local performance tuning shop that they got my PCIII in just now
Apparently the first batch of 100-something units already sold out and the rest on back order.
I got the appointment for 8 OCT to have it installed and dynoed. I will keep you guys updated.
