What price a Rockster?
Give me some help here guys, what value would you place on a 20 month old Tigerstripe Rockster (04 reg) with FULL BMW service history, but 42,000 miles on the clock. Heated grips, PIAA lights etc
I've just been offered £3,200.

I think the market is giving the Rockster a beasting at the moment. Too hardcore for trad Beemer fans, not silly enough for sporting hedge holers. The main dealers seem to be discounting them quite heavily and aren't shifting used ones easily. For what its worth I just bought my 2 year old 5500 mile pristine ED 80 (ABS and grips) with new tyres and a 3 month warranty from a non-BMW dealer for a deal worth about £4,800.
Riceburner; for reference, I bought my Rockster (ABS model with all options except panniers) for $11,000 Canadian $ last fall from the local BMW dealer. It was a corporate demo (executives from BMW Canada get to ride them around for a couple of months) with 4,000 kilometres and 2 years warranty/roadside assistance remaining. Seemed to be the going rate as the dealer had about 15 of these corporate demos and sold them all for the same price - regardless of what options they had. They went fairly quickly - (4 to 6 weeks).
For what its worth; although Canadian prices dont mean much in GB, your price converts to roughtly $8,000. CDN.

To try for a comparison I recently part exchanged my R1150R (Jul 03) with ABS, heated grips and 30,000 miles on the clock for a new Rockster with heated grips and pannier rails (but no ABS)in a deal which worked out as the R plus £3,500. This at a main BMW dealer.
This works out at somewhere around £3,000 for the R, which I was extremely disappointed with, giving that BMWs are sold on their ability to do huge mileage and still hold their value. However I wasn't offered any better anywhere else.

Rocksters with low mileage (a few thousand miles) are sitting at dealerships for around $8000 US Dollars right now.
I think that the Rockster holds little value because nobody wants them. Too strange for most people and too gaudy for most BMW riders.

Bought mine on 07 January 2006 / tiger stripe / prereg 2004 / 0 miles on the clock (genuine) / ABS / heated grips and warranty for £6500 - fresh and stinking of factory.
I have seen dealers asking the same money for same age bikes with some miles on the clock and no ABS.

Just to clarify, that £3,200 offer was from the insurance assessor and was meant to reflect the current market value of my bike just prior to it's crash 3 weeks ago.
He's since rung me back to say that that value was given to him by the salesman at my own dealership, and after contacting the editor of Glasses Guide (the industry valuation agency), he's upped the assessed value to 4,500 which is far more like it.
I think I'll be having words with my dealer.....

Re: Rockster price
latest offer was £4500, which is acceptable - BUT I have shortfall insurance so it's not really up to me.478cc wrote:Rice,
