After being away from biking for many, many years I rejoined the ranks of riders six months ago. Net-net...the 1150R (2002 Atlanta Blue) has been a source of pure passion and fun. I have put on about 2500 miles (mostly local and a few trips to the mountains in north Georgia). The bike is fairly easy to 'get comfortable' on and has plenty of versitility. This board is a great source of help, information and entertainment...I am a zealot and truly appreciate the fanaticism of the RR community.

- signal minder (not installed yet)
- passenger backrest (for my son)
- bmw tank bag (looks good but not as functional as others)
Maintenance performed:
- K&N airfilter
- new plugs
- changed oil, tranny and final drive (synthetic in all)
(still burning a little oil)
- replaced brake fluids and rear pads (Blue Moon Dealer...ugh $$$$$)
Pending maintenance...
- Adjust valves
- Sync throttle bodies
I am not a wrench, but with the advice from this board and the help of a good friend I think I can handle it.

PS...dont know about you guys, but I get tons of compliments on this bike. Some guy walking out of a restaurant last night stopped and said "Wow...nice bike". We chatted for about 10 minutes.

Six months is a good time to get to know a bike. It's great that the bike is such a source of enjoyment.
Nice fairing! The board is a great resource for information. And also a great resource for finding more money to spend on it!

Congrats Don. The bike looks great.
I think you'll find that the more you ride it, the better you like the bike - certainly the case for me. An additional benefit is that it is really a very easy machine to work on. This board is great resource for maintenance/technical questions.
You should get the Signal Minder installed pronto - you'll wonder how you ever lived without it afterwards. It is a very easy standard install, quite literally a plug-n-play. Look on this board for helpful information. I'd also highly recommend connection the optional brake light feature, though a little more involved in that you have to locate the brake light wire and tap into it. The "no-cut" tap splices appear to work well, though in my case, not being a trusting soul, I soldered the tap.
You mentioned a backrest; have you looked at the Stealth backrest from Pirate's Lair? I'm impressed with what I've seen and plan to install one of these in the near future.

Thanks for the note. I will have the signal minder installed sometime this weekend and do plan on tapping into the brake light. I found a stealth backrest on ebay for about $200...almost new. They go for $300 on pirates lair. It works well and is very easy to put on/take off.

I also bought my bike last summer and can't believe what a blast it is to ride. I have a question about the signal minder. One of these came installed on my bike (I bought it second-hand -- 2004 with 1800 miles on it) but I don't have the documentation for the signal minder. Does anyone know how I get it to turn on the "running" lights? As far as turn signal management goes, this thing can't be beat.
