R1100R & R850R owners
Hi All, I am new to this forum and was wondering why there is no R1100R thread?

Seriously, as the 2nd owner of a '99 R1100R (couldn't afford an 1150) I've been slightly dissapointed in the lack of online interest / information / conversation about this bike. However, the bike itself has been great - especially since I added a Techlusion and a Remus Gran Prix can and cat eliminator pipe.

Old school oilheads R850/1100R
We too are fans of the original oilhead Roadsters! A trusty R850R was my 1st Beemer, and in 2005 my wife rode a beautiful '01 R1100R during her first motorcycling season (more than 5k miles).

Sean, welcome to the club, the R1100R club, that is. It's very exclusive with few members. I believe all of the R1100R owners on the board have already chimed in. I ride a '96 R1100R. For some reason, I don't think many folks discovered the Roadster until the 1150 was introduced.
Besides the small base of owners, have you noticed the lack of aftermarket support for the R1100R? I recently tried to find a sport windshield for my bike. With the sole exception of Parabellum, nobody makes one that will work with a R1100R equipped with BMW's optional clock and tach.

Personally I think the R1100R has the more traditional BMW look. I was going to buy one way back when but I waited too long to get a new one and had to settle for the R1150R...Which it turns out has captured my fancy and I can't look back. Please don't anyone mention this around the Black Dominatrix.
1100R
Back when I was looking to upgrade from my trusty '83 RS, I test rode a couple of used 1100Rs and liked them but hated the handlebar setup. I ended up with a 1100 GS instead. If I had known about the conversion kits to allow regular tubular bars to be used, I probably would have owned one!

I do agreed that there are not many after market accessory for the bike, I have the handle bar change to a after market one and its from the previous owner.GeoffJ wrote:Sean, welcome to the club, the R1100R club, that is. Actually, I'm a "sis" not a bro, but thanks for including the little sibling to the R1100R.Hi Bro, I have just change the title of the thread to R1100R & R850R
Yes, please post pics!By the way nice bike you have, I guess I will start to post my bike pic when I have taken a picture of it.

My R1100R looks like the one pictured above. Same color, same windshield, cases, etc. Only difference is I have laced wheels, a Corbin seat and Saeng radar detector mount.
I'm beginning to realize that parts and accessories made for other BMW models will also fit the R1100R. BMW dealer parts departments are responsive to email inquiries regarding this issue.

There was an article in the BMW news a couple of years ago on a guy that had converted his R1100R to a close twin to an R90S, my all time favorite BMW! Changed out the bars to low bars, cafe fairing, sport suspension, etc. It was a sweet bike and nearly inspired me to get one instead of the 1150. But it probably would have cost me more by the time I tricked it out.

For the record, the proper name of the color is "Ascot Green"I wonder just what % of the teal green the r850r-r110r were made,or is it that the people that own them are atracted there?
I would also be curious to know how many 850s were sold in the US. As far as I know, they were only offered in 96 & 97.
GeoffJ, how do you like your Corbin seat and did you buy it new? I looked into getting a Sargent seat recently and they can only do a custom for that model year. The Corbins are super pricey and as far as I know you can't just get the driver's seat.

The riding in singapore is not good, because singapore is a very very small countries and usually we will ride to the neighbouring countries like Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos etc...
In Singapore there are too many traffic lights and during the peak hours from 0630hrs till 0900hrs & 1830hrs till 2030hrs there are huge jams on certain roads.
Because of the traffic jam, the government had implement the ERP(electronic road pricing) which mean a gate will be fix on certain roads where there are lots of traffic jams; whenever you pass the road, money will be deducted from the card unit fix on your bike. They are trying to reduce the amount of ppl using that particular jam road but in the end we are also using the same road and I don't see the traffic jam been solve.
Furthermore now we need to pay for going through the gate.
