cleaning products?
well i've owned mine for a few months now and cleaned it a few times too - but my mer polish leaves a few surfaces with quite a bit to be desired.
so what's good for? - tank, black plastic bodywork behind the tank, calipers, exhaust headers and air intake hoses?
cheers - paul

303!!
Hey there,
I will stick my neck out for 303 Aerospace Protectant. Cleans and protects, no shine....I love it.
I use it on all my cars and the Rockster too.....it works great in cleaning and protecting the flat black too. Of course I use car soap to wash off any heavy dirt first......

thanks for the suggestions. in my world cleaning is with a polish on the end of a cloth wrapped around my right hand index finger. my mer polish leaves my calipers especially looking rather 'whited.' i don't know how to make them look black and naturally clean looking. and my exhaust headers are starting to gather a right collection of tiny raised lumps - millions in fact - (corrosion,no doubt) that i'm sure can be removed to leave a nice shine....

for most of the black plastic, rubber, and black painted stuff, i use armor-all (son-of-a-gun) or any of those type of products(whatever protectant is cheapest, honestly). i use a small foam paint brush to get between the engine fins and just kind of slop/paint on the blackness, wipe off excess if necessary. this is great for hoses, and rubber wire coverings, calipers, well almost anything but tank and the shiny metal stuff.
NEVER put it on the seat!!!! your butt will slide and is not safe.
or rubber foot pegs.

I was dreaming when I wrote this, forgive me if it goes astray...
I was under the impression that using any armorall products or similar was actually terrible for the dash of your car, or the hoses of a bike. Has a tendancy to dry the rubber or plastic and crack it easily.
Never had it happen to me, but all the professors when I went to school for automotive technology said that is was bad stuff, and I hate anything that makes thinks shiny and slippery...
To each his own though...

I've heard the same, but what other options are there? Baby oil?Tripton wrote:I was under the impression that using any armorall products or similar was actually terrible for the dash of your car, or the hoses of a bike. Has a tendancy to dry the rubber or plastic and crack it easily.

As for the black plastic parts, I use the Mother's Back to Black. I used it on the system cases, rails, hlndlebar controls, and anything else that's black plastic.

This is a bit off topic but everytime that I was my bike I bust my knuckels on the wheels, so I decided to buy some wheel cleaner that would be safe on the white wheels and I bought this wheel made by Dupont with teflon and let me tell you!! the dirt just melts away it is amazing all I had to do is lightly rub it with my fingers and my wheels were as white as when I first bought it!!!

i've never heard of the amour-all products drying and cracking the rubber or plastic. i thought that UV radiation and heat were the enemy of those materials. i've used numerous types of these products on cars and bikes. the door seals on my 9 year old car, still soft and in perfect condition.
i also spray heavily under the hood of my car. never a cracked hose, wire or any other plastic or rubber parts. still looks like new under the hood (the interior and exterior do not!) 170K+ miles on it.
but who knows really? the point is to waste time blabbing on the board!

Cleaning Products
I often use S100 by Honda. The cleaner is not used as often, but I do use their wax and detail product quite a bit. For the shield, system cases, and black trim I use Plexus.
I have left all the hosing al-fresco. What, if anything should be used?
