Insurance works!

Post by NorseMan9 »

My wife took a spill at a track day learning, ironically, how to ride better. The 650 she was riding had over $2000 damage! I was shocked considering the low speed (under 20 mph) she was travelling when she went over.

I had it towed to the local shop here and they said I could try for insurance but they probably wouldn't pay since it wasn't a street accident. It was worth a shot and I'm happy to report that the insurance company actually paid the entire bill, minus the deductable of course. They even paid the higher labor rate that the shop was charging!

My faith in the insurance business is restored!

Ahem. Erik, you should first mention how your wife is doing and your concerns for her. ....... Then, you can celebrate the good news from the insurance company. Just a friendly reminder.

Eric-

Ditto Gypsy's comment. I will assume she is ok since I am sure your wife is the most important part of your life and I just know that you would have commented first of her condition had she been injured!

As far as the insurance coverage, I think it not unusual that they would have paid. My bike was supposedly knocked over by the wind on Jan 2, '04 and the damage come to a tad over $1300! My carrier at the time was Progressive and they paid all (less deductible) with no questions.
The bike was parked in a private parking lot with no witnesses to the event.

At any rate glad all is well!

Oh, uh, yeah, right. Her. :D

She's fine. A couple bruises and shaken up a bit but otherwise fine. BTW, this happened about 6 weeks ago and she's long recovered. The insurance piece just kicked in.

Hope that clears it up.

After reading your story I fired an email to my inusrance agent to check on what is covered, since I WAS planning to take the BMW ART course in the Spring, but that will depend on whether I have insurance coverage or not. Something tells me, no, the insurance co. will not cover that, and not to mention I bet if I read my BMW Financial Agreement, it will have a caveat in there about having the motorcycle somewhere that insurance will not cover it, i.e. a Race Track. Not quite sure, but this could be a major problem.
