system case pinning - UK?

Hi folks, I've decided that I want to do CycleRob's pin trick on my new panniers.
Has anyone in the UK done this, and if so, where did you find the pins? I've been looking but can't find anything anywhere! Just wondering if maybe someone's found something slightly different to use that i've overlooked.

Otherwise if I get really stuck, is there anyone in the US who would be kind enough to pick a few up from Home Depot and mail them to me? Obviously I'd pay for the pins and postage, preferably with paypal

Don't want to end up loosing my nice shiny new cases!

We don't have 'Home Depot' either, but similar items are available from tractor shops (as in agricultural machinery). Try them.

if you mean the pins with a "keyring" on one end and a split pin hole on the other, slightly tapered at one end.... I think you could pick them up in a yachting or chandlery shop.

Quick update:

I've found a place in the UK that sells them, though they usually only deal with companies. I just ordered 3 different kinds of pins from them, and had to order 6 of each to make up the minimum order.

Basicly I'm gonna have a massive load of them now! Better than none, I suppose
Anyway, I figured I might as well ask you guys! If there's anyone in the UK who wants some, let me know.
I have to wait to see the invoice to get a price, but I think they worked out at around £2 each plus postage. Not as cheap as I'd hoped, but cheaper than a new case I suppose

It seems that the system cases that some folks have on their R-Rs will randomly choose to part ways with the motorcycle without notifying the rider... Despite being properly latched on... Sounds like it has happened to a few members on this board... and to a few K1200RS / K1200GT (older style) riders as well... The idea is to pin the cases to the frame of the 'bike such that auto bag dismount is prevented. Here is CycleRob's suggested fix: http://r1150r.org/board/viewtopic.php?t=7652&start=13. You should be able to find these pins at any general hardware store. I got a pair at a local Ace Hardware when our Home Depot didn't have any.

Right then, I've got them in now. They worked out at roughly £2 each, so plus postage, probably an even £5 for a pair if anyone's interested?

I've got 3 different sizes. large, medium and small. The medium ones seem to be ideal, as they're thick, but not so thick they're overly hard to open. The small ones are thinner wire, so easier to undo, but they're just over 1/2 an inch in width, so might be a tight fit on the cases. The large ones are good, but they are a bit hardcore, they take a bit of finger strength to open (could be a good thing?). They all look as though they'd fit fine though.

I've not fitted mine yet, so can't tell you exactly which ones are best, but I will do soon.

Do you really have to remove the rear wheel and muffler to do this mod?..............hirschg
