Brake Failure on RT :cry:

Picked up my new (to me) 2004, R1150RT two weeks ago. I have put on several hundred miles and thoroughly enjoyed it until this afternoon. ABS brake failure light continually flashes at 4hz (fast), general warning light off. If I read the fault table in the Riders Manual correctly I think it's telling me the self-diagnosis is not completed. As a result, no ABS or brake servos..."residual braking" only. I've checked the fluid in both the front and rear circuits, all OK. Pads are fine. Any ideas?

Charge the battery to the point where it gives a proper voltage reading, 13+ volts, and check all connections. If those don't fix it, buy a new battery.

I checked/charged the battery: good. I checked the front and rear DOT fluid: good. Checked pads, connections, ABS sensors, fuses. I finally gave up and called the local BMW service, made arrangements to haul my RT into the shop. I went home early, backed my pickup into the driveway. Started my RT to warm so I could drive it up into my truck. I put up the ramps onto the back of my truck. As I turned around to walk back toward the garage where my RT was running on the center stand I noticed the brake light was on. I jiggled the front brake, no change in brake failure light fast flash. I jiggled the rear brake, bingo! Failure light started blinking slow. To test I gave it a quick ride. Problem solved. Apparently something was keeping the rear brake pedal from closing all the way. The diagnostic system, thinking one of the brakes were active couldn't complete the brake diagnostic and therefore never activated the servos. Oh happiness! My baby is well. However, there is still a downside to this story: never let god know you are happy. Once she finds out she will get you. My pickup that has been running perfectly for the last 50,000 miles as of that moment refused to shift out of first! Sometimes there is just no winning...but at least I can ride
