R1150r differences
I'm looking for a r1150r and was wondering the model differences between the years 01 and up!
Thanks john

Hi,
as far as I know the only change was the move to twin spark heads on the 03 (in the UK) model. You can tell by looking at the head. Single spark has a continous black plastic cover strip accros it and the twin stops over the plug socket. Other than that there are abs and non- abs but they are just part of the options packages.

As ususal, DJ's right - they're all good.
I have an '03 and Buckster's correct about that year being the last for US models with a single spark. I think the '02 and on models have a different telelever than '01. No functional differences but BMW went to a 2-piece, bifurcated, welded telever to replace the earlier single-piece stamped unit.

At some point - in '04 maybe- they changed the 6th gear to a lower ratio. Earlier the high gear was a higher overdrive. The higher overdrive 6th will cruise 80mph at about 4K rpm. I believe the lower 6th gear you're at about 70 at 4K rpms.
Others feel free to tweak my point above. The 60's took a heavy toll on my memory retention.

I heard that also. What I do not get is My 02 1150 got 40MPG all the time. My 04 gets 48MPG city/56MPG HWY.
I really do not notice any diff. in the rpm/speed than the 02. Other than that they are all GOOD!

I keep forgetting to shift into 6th running down the interstate, I sure don't see 6th on the backroads! I guess I just like the sound of the engine more at a little higher RPMs!I find the lower 6th more usable on most of my backroad riding.
'02 in black - the real BMW color! (Now gone to a new home)
