Oil use query

My '02 R1150RT used a half to one quart of oil every 2000 miles untill it had about 15000 miles on it. By then it was using almost no oil between changes. I've been told that is the norm for BMWs. My R1200R seems to use no oil at all, at least not in the 1400 miles I have on it now. I'm not complaining, mind you, but I am wondering about this. Any info on other's oil use or lack of, would be of interest. Thanks, Hank.

I have 6000 miles on my R now. It used zero oil the first 600 miles. When I had it changed it was maybe a 1/16th of an inch below the top of the site glass window. It basically never moved from 600 miles to 5000 miles, when I changed over to synethetic.

Hi!

I expected some oil use like my R1100S did. Had the first service at 1000km and could see a air bubble just in topp of the sight glass when cold. A little overfill from the dealer but did not do anything about it because i thought the level would fix it self. Now after riding 2200km the bubble is at the same spot in the sight glass. So there have not been any oil use so far. When buying the R11S i was told that a boxer use oil, so whats wrong with this boxer

I added a little oil to mine to get the level from 4mm (more or less ) below to 4mm above the center.
I suppose it was only several ounces.

During the first 600 miles and a motoman style breakin, usage was about 3 tablespoons. Just did an oil change at 3000 miles, and checked the levels in a large lab measuring cup. No oil usage. I bet the Harley guys would pay real money for this option !

Mine hardly uses a bit of oil.
