Thinking out loud

Post by RRANDY »

Have you ever gone out for a ride,on a deserted country road, on a moonlit night, and felt like you were just kind of sitting still while the earth was rotating beneath your rear tire? It's pretty cool.

Except when the moonlight brings out all sorts of things other than moths and mosquitos! Very risky riding at night in my part of the world!

It's always the opposite for me. The world seems to sit still while I keep spinning my wheels.

But how hard could it be to dodge camels? If they are like the camels we have in Texas, you just duck and go right under 'em.

At least in Australia they give you a warning sign.

Forget the camel..what's that creature in the middle of the sign? At first I thought it was my former mother-in-law, but she's never been to Australia.

Emu, Schmemu. Who'd have thunk an emu would have 2 legs?

Hell, a 4 legged emu makes more sense than a camel in Australia!

I once came across a sign like that in Nevada. It had a silhouette of a farmer driving a tractor. From that point on I kept looking for those wandering wild farmers on tractors.

Those wild farmers are dangerous, I am not at all joking. Think of cresting a rise and finding a huge hunk of iron, at 3 MPH pulling a contraption with pointy steel tines and circular blades, spanning both lanes, spewing mud all over the road.

I'd take the danger of a 4 legged emu anyday.

Although, it is proper etiquette to wave to the wild farmers, as well as bikers when in Iowa. For that matter, it is also proper to wave to people mowing the lawn as well.
I was dreaming when I wrote this, forgive me if it goes astray...

Check out what I almost ran over on my bike just the other evening. He must of been absorbing the heat from the road. It was just after the sun went down. Weird things come out at dusk you wouldn't normally see during the day.

It's a Western Rattlesnake. Somewhat common here Kelowna. It's kinda of deserty in some parts near here.

No...When I say protected..I mean from shooting..or eating..But if I did hit it on my bike...

I can imagine it taking the front wheel out of my bike and I would go down 'big-time'..and it would just crawl back to the bush like nothing had happened.

It would be like hitting a large watermelon made of steel.. ..They are tough critters.

I just came across that one on the side of the road that had..'gone to meet its maker'..and will soon be..'Pushing up the daisies'... :D

Those who've seen all my Great Ride pictures would have seen many pics like this one.

Some times my Great Ride pictures are not complete without a roadkill pic..yeah I know...I must be sick in the head or something..

btw Marku...Great Rattlesnake pics.. :smt023 ..I hope they were taken with a zoom..and not a macro lens..
