You make me laugh! I dont know. I need to get the monthly breakfast rides going again. Might be able to throw something together for the 28th. Leaving this Saturday for a trip and then back next week. After the 28th, hopefully leaving again for anther short trip. Will have to see. I also need to get to Kfalls to pick up some bags for the GS at some point. If it wasnt for work, I wouldnt have all of these schedule problems!

Ha Ha.....I think I prodded you after that test ride that a GS could be next....you were being all smart, rational, and practical at that time!
So much for that!
Menlo Rally July 26, 27,28,29....Come, maybe a day ride if you can't make the whole rally....a lot of your BMWRO friends will be there. I will be much more talkative than our pacific city ride. ( I was sick as a dog that day but determined to ride. )
I have to razz you! Hey I thought we had the PDX R connection going there for a while....you on the South side and me on the North side of the hill.
I know what your wife is going through. I have been Jones'n for a dual sport. No big rides just coast range stuff, up gravel roads etc. I WANT ABS. I took the advanced riders class and I know I used those babies.
One Team Oregon instructor speculated that we may use ABS more than we ever know....it's why our bodies are not on the pavement.
Majority of roads are paved....even if you do some dirt and gravel.
So that leaves..
Triumph Tiger, too big and heavy.
The VStrom...a workable option.
F650...small but capable.
Multistrada...oooh Uhhhm YUM....but no ABS
KLR makes a sexy new 650...Hillsboro Motosport has 3. Kind of tall.
Can it be lowered? I dunno.
Kiwi at Portland Motorcycle feels the 800 GS is two years out.
Have fun with your new bike and let me know the fate of the other members of the 'Silver Trio!'

Took the GS out tonight for the first time two-up. Almost speechless. The R does great two-up, but it does require a slight change in braking and how you start from a stop, especially if you are on an incline. The GS, well it never really acknowledged that there was a person on the back. Regardless of incline or anything, same clutch action and the bike just went, no extra gas or slipping of the clutch. Brakes were strong and sure with the added weight and at any RPM, a roll of the throttle threatened to dump the pillion. Wife said the back seat is much roomier for her and her legs were not as cramped. I know I had more room up front and never felt crunched against the tank.
A neat feature it has, when riding two-up, it is common for your headlight to elevate blinding other cars and making it fairly useless. The GS has a lever behind the light that when flipped down, it rotates the reflector just a bit so the light points down, back to a usefull position. I know you can do this with the R's rubber mounted light, but just not as easy as a lever.
My only complaint so far was when gassing up tonight. When on the center stand, the bike is sooo tall, its hard to see into the tank to fill it to brim.
