Wayne! I'm sorry to be reading this! Like everyone else, I'm glad you were able to walk, er, stumble away.

My guess for the bike is, if the frame was tweaked, then it's probably totalled. And the way it sounds to me is the frame got tweaked.

Keep us updated on your status (and the bike's). This would be a good reason to 'upgrade' to the R1200R.

Wayne old man...thank God your OK. Had heart failure for a few seconds reading your post, till I realize no serious injuries. I'm telling you, BMW makes a tough motorcycle! I was hit head on by a pickup truck, any other bike I would have been dead!

Well, my advice to you...Vicodin and lots of rest! No tower climbing for a while, let Rosa take care of you!!

If that was an 18-wheeler (I know, I know, they are easier to spot) ... you would have turned into the trucker's mascot ...

Close call, but you live another day and have the chance to tell the tale.

Get better soon!

As others have said the most important thing is you walked away and are still with us. Unfortunatley I am also a member of the second group and was sure my bike was gone after my wreck. in the list of damages the sub frame was bent but the bike was repaired and is good as new. These beemers are pretty tough you might be surprised with the insurance decission. I admit I used to be guilty of rolling through an ocassional stop, that changed today. Now I have two new rules

1. Full Stop no matter what. :( (your crash)
2. When you stop watch your back  (my crash)

Regardless glad you are OK heal quickly and let us know what happens to the silver bullet.
Yer wanted by the police and my wife thinks your dead.

I am also of the second group. . The bike can be repaired or a new one obtained, you can only be repaired. Learning from your post, I will now not try to keep both feet on the pegs at a near stop but will put at least one foot on the ground, so thanks for the information. Glad you are not seriously injured. Feel better soon!

I'm glad your injuries were minor. Like many of the others, I'm in the second group, also. We all learn from our mistakes, and by sharing them, others can learn also. I admit to being a "rolling stopper" when I think it's safe, but it probably never really is. I'll stop doing it now.

Have a speedy recovery.

I fell into the second group in 1979 and still have the scars to show for it. If anything positive can come from such an event, it has made me a much more cautious rider (and automobile!) driver today.

God speed and thank Heaven's you're mostly OK. I'm sorry for your mishap.

I heard about your accident at the mini-Bash in Ozark, AR. Bad news travels fast, but I can assure you there were many that joined in wishing you well. I'm new in this group, and I was one of them.

Best,

Wayne,

Although it may take time to recover body and bike, look at all the good your post immediately generated. Many have admitted to the same rolling stop you made and now swear to come to a complete stop each and every time. You've saved if not lives, possible injury through your post. You reminded us to just how fragile life is and how important it is to be ever vigilant while riding. Thank you for that!

I just want to add my own wishes for your speedy recovery.

Really sorry to hear about your accident. You are truly lucky!! A wise rider once told me that the saddlebags are a cheap form of insurance and now I am a believer.

I tend to roll through stops too but based on your experience, will make sure that I stop completely.

Recover soon!!!

Heard about your mishap from CycleRob at the Mini Bash....didn't have a computer to get back to you but better late than never.

Luck was on your side my friend.....just a reminder not to loose the concentration required to ride and survive. I hope you are on your way to a quick recovery....the second and third days is when you smart......just the way of our body to remind us that we got bounced around.

Regarding the bike, yes they can be replaced. By looking at the first couple of pics I saw the the brunt of the impact was taken by the side case, it's mounting and the muffler, however, on the third or fourth pics I came upon on what appears to be a crack by the starter cover.......hmm.....that tells me that there was movement away from the center line of the bike.......

One way to really tell the extent of the damage is to look for breaks or cracks, at the engine mounting points for the rear frame and the driveshaft unit. In any event, if the bike is totaled, see if you can buy it back, there are a lot of good components there that can be saved or sold off.

Get well soon, best wishes.............later, I'll share with you why I didn't ride at the Mini Bash.........8)

Wayne - I did not know about your accident until I checked the board at 5:45 Saturday morning heading out the door to Virginia. Sorry about the damage but very glad you walked away, even with a limp!

Also sorry I missed seeing you this weekend!

Sorry about your accident and I hope you get well soon. You mentioned wearing full protective gear. Since you now have experience first hand the brunt of an impact like this, is there anything in your equipment that you would change/upgrade? I'm asking because I'm looking to purchase protective gear this winter and I figure you would be in a great position to give advice on that topic.

Do get well soon.

Looking at your photos at the bash, I must say you are very lucky. I know it may not seem that way, but you survived a very "could have been" crash. Glad you are here to tell your story, and good luck on your recovery!

You know having all the kind comments makes the accident worthwhile!! (well....almost)

I'm glad that you guys can hopefully get some good out of this. I used myself as an example in this morning's safety meeting at work. I'm the safety manager for a tower construction company so it's my job to be safe! -- and a little humbling to screw up-- but that's what living and learning is all about.

Healing up fine--leg is still sore and back aches a little but it could have been much worse-----so I'm very thankful. Still don't have much idea of how my bike will fare. Spoke to the adjuster this afternoon and he was planning to look at the bike by day's end so I have no news on that as of now.

I posted this photo elsewhere on the board but probably should have been here. I think my Angel was right there with me on thursday!
