I got the comfort temp (schoeller keptoprec) undergarment from BMW as a gift two years ago. I call them my "magic underwear". They have a phase change material on the arms, chest and front of legs. It has the property of absorbing body heat and storing it (such as when you are suiting up or stopped for fuel), keeping you from sweating or overheating. Then, while underway, the stored heat is released beck to you. Sounds weird, but it works. I have worn it with a heated vest riding the interstate in 26 degree (F) weather, but never turned the vest on...

It is cold here. I have not ridden since the 11th. Having withdrawl (see posts in off topic re; addiction)
but I wear some interesting stuff. Eclectic collection of this and that I have accumulated and it works.
Dashnj,
We gottta talk you into some heated gear! Gerbing Jacket liner has been the BEST. Thin people just don't have any natural resources when it comes to staying warm.
Best investment I ever made...short of buying the R.

IMHO
Be careful not to get too thick of socks. I learned when I used to water fowl hunt that thick socks can makes your feet colder. Especially If it makes the boot tighter... Warm thin socks with wiggle room works the best for me.
As an earlier post mentioned, should have bought the gerbing jacket liner years ago...but since I had a vest I thought I had it covered. The heat in the sleeves and collar make a huge contribution to my over-all comfort.
Worth every penny.
JB.
