Ditto all. I have direct hookups for my Zumo, phone charger and Gerbing gear. If I could figure out how to mount it, I'd instal the Centech fuse box and get rid of a bunch of wires under the seat.

1) Zumo-I could not live without it. I am using a RAM mount that allows me to mount it on the left handlebar, just out of the way of the tank bag.

2) Bags multiply the versatility of the bike 100X. I have the BMW side bags, which are a snap to remove and remount. The downside is the cost. Somewhere recently I saw a thread that showed soft bags mounted that don't look too bad, but don't offer the security of the hard bags. I will NOT get a hard tailbag. I think they make the bike look ridiculous, and don't hold enough to be useful, anyway (flame suit on). I do have the rear rack, though.

3) With gloves and the heated grip I don't need guards, but if someone comes out with a bolt-on version (as of now you have to adapt the ones meant for the GS), I'd probably get them. I like the looks.

4) Extra lights for sure. I am still researching the best way to go. I am also wondering about a modulator for the headlight. It sure makes you noticeable--like a locomotive coming down the tracks! And LEDs for the rear. Again, I am researching.

Crash bars are classic BMW and allow a place for highway pegs. The jury is still out.

Ditto on no pipes. I like the stock sound just fine, and after market have little, if any, effect on performance.

Ditto on no shocks. I'll take people's word for it that they improve handling. I simply don't push my bike so hard that I'd notice.

In addition (other than what seems to come with a "standard" package--center stand, trip computer, heated grips, ABS)I will be the adjustable pegs, so my legs are a little less bent, a custom seat, rear hugger. I am of two minds about the seat. I am currently riding with an Alaskan Sheepskin over an AirHawk cushion. That's good for a couple of hundred miles. I'd like to be able to do 600 mile days, and that calls for a Russell Day Long (my preference). The downside of that is that it really messes up the look of the bike--which I REALLY like as is--so I am in the midst of a form versus function debate.

Other than that I have no interest in the little geegaws like after market caps for the brake and clutch reservoir, plug for the rear axle, etc. The R ain't a Harley and simply doesn't benefit from sparkle.

1) BMW Bags - love the fact that I can fit my full face helmet in there and know it's still there and dry when i get back.
2) Verholen Bar Backs and Vario Pegs (lowers pegs by 30mm) - great for comfort.
3) Neoprene grip wraps - provides for cushioning that helps with my carpal tunnel.
4) Throttle rocker - again, great for my carpal tunnel.
5) SW Motech engine bars - work great as leg rests and mounting place for addl lights.
6) Alaska Leather sheepskin pad - no more swamp a$$.
7) Zumo 550 - piece of mind.
K12R mirrors (oval) - I can see what's behind me.
9) Aftermarket seat - I have a Corbin on order and will let this forum know how it is once i get it.

Well my dreams are closer to a reality today.

Some decisions made.

1) Will be buying an 1200R this week - don't know about delivery yet.
2) Will not buy side bags but will borrow (steal) my husband's because he doesn't need them anyway.
3) Ordered a parabellum 22" clear replacement screen - it will be here on the 24th of June
4) Will hold off on the airhawk seat until I have experienced the seat - if I like it great - if not an airhawk or my preference a russell.
5) GIVI top case - 1/2 the cost of the BMW version
6) BMW Cylinder protectors
7) Zumo GPS - either 450 or 550 - not certain yet
Have my accessory plug hard wired to the battery (insert BMW CAN-bus rant here)
9) maybe a small tank bag - maybe not

10) A BIG SMILE ON MY FACE.

My husband has decided on a blue RT - he likes the fairing.

DUDE, WHY ARE YOU SCREAMING AT US?

In both my automotive life, and now in my motorcycle life I try to blend 3 concepts: performance, utility, and style (retro). Obviously, the best choice for meeting such a goal is BMW!! :-) As such, I've been a Bimmer driver for almost a decade, and have now purchased my first Beemer.

When I got ordered the bike back in late April/early May I had my "vision" of the final outcome in mind. The list below covers the vision. I am about 66% complete but need about a week or so before I am fully implemented and will then post pics. In the interim, heres the written plan:

* 2008 R1200R, Black w/ OEM retro stripes
* System cases, w/ custom retro striping to match the factory stripes
* Black-outs on the blue part of the roundels (HUGE visual improvement on a black bike)
* Remus headers (sans cat), exhaust wrapped in black for retro look (and mild, mild functionality)
* Remus Hexacone carbon fiber exhaust
* K&N filter to go with full Remus upgrade
* MRA SpeedScreen (black), basically the same as the OEM sport screen except 1/2 the price (imported by Twisted Throttle)
* CeeBaileys soft bags for system cases (total disappointment)
* K1200R mirrors
* Factory stuff: ABS, compooter, center stand, heated grips, clear lights

More soon.......

p3 lights ordered about 2:15 EST Friday 6/27...Rec'd Monday 6/30 !!!!!


Started mounting them yesterday and finished this morning. If I hadn't tried to disect (9th grade worm disect) the taped line I could have cut the 2 hour install to 1. Luckily I did not cut a wire (SOME HOW ).

For those thinking of following suit-----I spliced into the lines 1 & 1/4 inch from the plugs which attach to the tail light. I tried to splice in under the seat but 15 mosquito bites (w/ Off) later I gave up.. Not enough slack, too many ground wires (brown) and too many deet resistant f'n mosquitos.

I have swapped out the plate bolts for ones with a lesser diameter and longer legth. the Bolts that game with the kit are adequate if you are satisfied with using the bikes tag plate as a nut. AND my plate, the lights and the the bikes tag frame "barely" lined up.

Still need to tweak.. zip ties, and aiming of lights.. yes aiming. per instructions.

I have a nearly brand new pair of saddlebag rails available for sale if anyone wants to "fill their holes" that way

Assuming that's a K&N air filter.. just a FWIW (and it gets religious..), there are a lot of us who wouldn't have a K&N filter on their bike.. since I've never been able to measure any performance increase (in lots of dyno tests), and other people have convinced me it doesn't filter as well as the stock paper filter.

Like I said - YMMV, FWIW and all other disclaimers. Some people swear by them. Others swear at them.
