Any R1200R owners come from R1100R ?

Post by LeonardoNYC »

Being an R1100R owner for 8 great years and over 45,000 miles I was curious to know if any new R12R owners skipped the 1150 and/or were former R100R owners and if you could compare the two bikes. I fully realize the 12 is significantly faster but any other observations/comments would be of interest to me.

Thanks in advance.

I had a R1100R two bikes back. Two major differences:

-- The power is with the R1200R. Night and Day. (And a smooth tranny.)

-- The ergos on the R1200R are relaxed. I could never get comfortable on the R1100R.

Hi Leonardo

I switched directly from the R850R (2001 vintage) to the R12R.
1) The 12 of course has the power. Lots of it. Great lots.
2) The 12 feels much handier. My corner speeds increase.
3) Both the above make you go fast. Watch your licence!
4) The 850 felt like a battleship in comparison. Extremely stable. On the other hand even riding in high winds up to 6-7 Beaufort I did never feel unsafe or unstable on the 12. Probably all in the mind...
All said, while I really loved my 850 I don't regret the change.
BTW I also rode the R1150R for 4000 miles a year ago and basically it felt like my 850, only with more juice.

Hope that helps.
