OK, you all know I 'm a newbie to the R11R so I have lots of silly questions.
Under the seat just to the rear of the fuse box is a 3-wire plug (Deutsch Connector ?) IIRC Brown/Green, Brown/Black, and Brown/Blue wires. Looks as if it is plugged into a dummy- probably to keep it clean. Is this for heated seat?
Can it supply 12v switched power for a GPS?
or Name that Part!

Following up on my own question, I have investigated more- since no replies have flown in, I think it may be the motronic diagnostic plug...

Just been outside to look at my 2002 R1150R. A similar socket is fastened to the top of the air cleaner. It is as you say.

I would use a 12V test light to find a swiched power sorce ( I used the instrument's light). I would use a relay to close the circuit. The relay takes very littel power to enrgise and perhaps a aux. fuse box if you are planing other elec. acc. Goog Luck

For my GPS, I ran a line right from the battery ( I now run it through an aux fuse panel ) but I want it to have constant power. My GPS shuts off when it looses external power so fuel fill ups would require turnig the GPS back on everytime and it reading its position again.
What I did so I could have an easy quick diconnect for the power cradle it uses is, I bought an extension cable from Gerbings, like $5. I cut it and spliced one end onto my power cradle and the other end goes to the battery. This way I have and easy connection I cant switch polarity on and with a small cap I found at Ace, the end on the bike has a dust cover.

Hopz - if you don't have an auxilliary 12V receptacle in the starter cover (by left boot, but they weren't installed pre-2004?), then you probably have a round, black, plastic plug in the hole where one can be installed, and the wiring is already in there tucked up behind the starter solenoid.

Thank you for the tip. Yes, I have a plug, and it probably has wires. I cannot find this on the wiring diagram and without experimentation do not know if it is a switched power source or not.
Anyone know?
I was planning to use that for trickle charger so I assumed it was not switched.
Thanks again. My restoration is coming along well. New/recovered seat ready tomorrow. After five days of cleaning I can begin to see whats under there.

Hi gang,
I am not sure what you mean when you say that the plug is to the rear of the fuse box, but the round plug that is normally secured to the airbox cover under the tank is Motronic diagnostic readout.

Well, what I mean is that it is a three wire Deutsch plug, which is plugged into a blue dummy that is in turn tied to a flat area to the rear of the fuse box. The blue dummy plug is zip-tied to a frame sort of member.
Edited to Add: The plug in the plastic starter housing is hot- all the time. Good plug for jacket- or to charge the battery.
I would love to find a place to tap into switched power- without using the wire crimp sort of taps... Ideas?

Hopz I find that it is easy to use a relay soldered to the rear light and use that relay to activate the gear.

mcollect, where do you get said relay?

OU812 It's just a Bosch relay. Check this out for a great explanation. <http>
