I've been asked about this a few times now and decided to post about it here for anyone else that may be interested.

I've had mine on for a few years now..It was going to be just a Summer thing but I like it so much I've left it on all year round.

This is the 650 GS screen..well it's more of a wind deflector..it stops that full blast of wind that hits you in the chest when you have no screen.

It does not have any buffeting that all screens seem to have..and it also feels like your riding naked..and the best thing is that it's so quiet.

They are very cheap to buy..only take less than an hour to modify to fit and it mounts on the standard fly screen mounts.

I love mine...Here's some more info.

Two of the holes line up perfect..(the two lower side holes)..btw..it comes in this silver plastic.





Once the lower piece is cut out you have a perfect fit..I just used a hack saw..and gave the edge a light sand.

You can also drill and add the other two bolts..but just the two hold fine.



The piece that needs to be cut out needs to be just right or you will have to throw it in the bin.

Here's a template for anyone thinking of doing this.

Just print and photocopy..and resize it till the scale is right..this 2nd pic also shows the part number.





Here's the view that you get..it's just big enough to protect the instruments from bugs and stone chips.



If you are happy with it you can paint it to match the bike.

Since I am crazy enough to own also a 650 I thought I could use your suggestion and switch screens. But of course you are making reference to another 650 GS!

I do like your screen. I have been fishing around the idea of switching to a small screen like the MRA Vario speed screen or the MRA tour screen. I have a Parabellum supertour thats big but I have got used to the wind protection it provides on the highway.-I do alot of highway travel to and from work.
I like your idea alot. How much were the brackets?

However, there is several more options for the GS650.
Painted in black is 46632346311, but I do not know the difference
with the one you used. Do you know it ?

Buckster...How much are the brakets??..sorry I don't know that either (don't know much do I.. .)..
I already had the standard BMW fly screen..so I just used those brackets..
I'm not even sure if you can buy the brackets by themselves.

DJ thanks, so you mean that the transparent screen on my F650 should fit on my R1150R? (yes I am so silly that I own two BMW bikes plus a small 125cc Honda motocross bike, my wife has only partially realized this situation.....).

I think DJ's setup is nice too -- it looks really "styling", and may provide the perfect amount of protection.

Since my bike does not have an existing windscreen, I was curious about the cost of the brackets as well.

I used one of the online parts fische diagrams to ID the bracket pieces, and then went to Chicago BMW for a price. The left and right brackets are about $ 75.00 EACH as "pieces parts". On the other hand, the US flyscreen kit is about $ 175.00, so it would be better to buy that and go from there -- you'd have the flyscreen as an option then also. The F650 GS solid silver flyscreen (only) from Chicago is about $ 25.00.

Being the cheap-skate, I went ahead and ordered the F650 GS screen, but *not* the BMW windshield brackets. Of course I ordered "other" stuff, but that's another story.

I am going to develop an alternative mounting scheme (i.e., aluminum or SS brackets), most likely off either the turn signal posts or the Main lamp mounting (pivot) points. Then proceed as usual with DJ's mod.

It may take me a while to figure it out and get it done -- I have a nice list of other bike projects to do first.

BTW - I have enough metal fabrication equipment to be dangerous, so it really isn't going to be very difficult (ha, famous last words....). Longest/hardest part will be the initial phase to come up with a robust *and* pleasing design that is simple to make. I am also considering a multi-piece design that would allow for some adjustment of the screen's position and angle to optimize airflow for my normal position on the bike -- its the aerospace engineer in me.... I can't help it.
