This motorcycle is flawless, there are no scratches, dents or blemishes. It is in what I would either call new or showroom condition. It has never been dropped or been involved in a collision. The bike has always been garaged and has never seen rain. The bike runs excellent and has never given me a single problem.

All service on the motorcycle has been preformed by BMW Motorcycles of Louisville, where the motorcycle was purchased from. The first service was done at 612 miles and most recently an oil-change and general inspection at 1976 miles. During the last service both recalls were preformed (oil filler cap and front brake).

The title is clean and lien free. All maintenance records are available.

Gypsy, I sit on a K12R every time I'm at my dealer. I just can't get past that evil street fighter look with the headlight winking back at me. I can hear it saying "buy me" too. And now they have a K12R Sport in Blue! ahhhhalll droooool and I will test ride them sometime too.

But, it never takes me long to realize that it's no where near as comfortable as my R1150R. I have also heard they are not as nimble due to the longer wheel base. IMO, if your thinking of adding it to your collection, OK, but if your thinking of replacing your R with it, you better get a longish test ride!

Just make sure it's the right bike for the kind of ridin' you do - just sayin'

That looks like a pretty reasonable deal to me. According to Kelly Blue Book the retail price for the bike is $13,245 and the trade in is $9,635. So, $11,440 falls right in the middle. Anything less than that is a good deal.

It's an awesome bike, fast enough to blow your eyeballs out, I think you can do a little better. Make him an offer he can't refuse!!

I like it..I would buy it..I think the black and yellow looks great.

Those yellow fork guards really stand out...making you more visible.

Ask your local dealer if they think it's a good deal..or can they do better.

I dunno... those things have serious "grunt", but I've heard they're kinda brutal on rear tires even if you don't dial up all those ponies a lot. Being short of inseam, I seriously considered one anyway, but there's always a bunch of 'em available here in SoCal with low miles at low prices. Made me wonder why?

I wound up with a 1200ST, the ergo's work well for me (short legs, long torso) and I seem to have a "thang" for a boxer engine (I like to do my own maintenance). If I wanted a seriously high-zoot "sport tourer", I'd probably just get another FJR. But, that's just me...

Gypsy, have you either sat on or better yet ridden one? They're fierce (and it's fun!), but I'm thinkin' that must wear off fairly soon.

Dealers with 2006 K1200R on the floor are discounting MSRP to 12900.00 which includes in many cases the ESA and /or ABS options.

So comparison from the new baseline price to the current KBB is skewed.

I would worry that an original owner who plunked down the 14-15K, then put only 1500-2500 miles on the bike, was not the typical BMW owner of days gone by. The expectation that maintenance, care and good break-in occurred are absent. The chance that high abuse, wheelies, stoppies, burn-outs and such occurred is higher (imo).

Given the current discounts on new K1200R bikes, especially given the fact that they may be throwing in the bags as well, makes this deal only a reasonable one and not smoking. This could work to your advantage though, if you don't need the bags... you could bring the current discount situation up with the owner and see if he's willing to give a bit on the price.

Having said that, have you ridden a K12R yet? If you haven't, I'd recommend a test-ride first before buying one. This is one seriously powerful monster, with a voracious appetite for rear tires. The acceleration and the sound are completely addictive, so your license is in constant jeopardy. Not for the faint of heart or short of experience.

I can't go back the 80's now, I'm too old for another 150mph bike.
I survived one, and 150 mph is mind blowing.

It's an open question what would last longer, my license, or my life.

I agree that if you haven't rode one, you should get a little time on one first. I have sat on one and just don't like stretching to reach the bars. I really like the looks of the new K1200R Sport. It just seems too long and I don't care for the riding position.
If this is going to be an addition to your stable, I'm sure it would be a fun bike to add!

No idea if it's a good deal or not Gypsy, all I can say is that my wife LOVES hers. And when it was written off (by me. ) after 6 months she went straight out with the insurance pay off and bought an identical one! It suit her very well and it's the bike she "wants". I distinctly remember the first time we were shown one, before they were released (we know our dealer well. ) and she just fell in love with it there and then.

They are "heavy" to manoeuvre at low speeds and when pushing about, but go "light" once moving properly. Seating position is VERY similar to the Rockster, but with narrower bars.

Just asked Mitzi her thoughts and she says:
"They're BLOODY heavy, and you have to be tall enough to reach the bars comfortably."



Also - "the windblast at speed can be quite heavy, but the Sport windshield makes a surprising difference and is recommended."

I think the best advice we can impart is "Get a test-ride! and see if it suits you!"

One other thing - Mitzi can handle the K-R easily enough, but she struggles with my Rockster, so if you're able to handle an R1150R ok, the K may well be ok too. But a test ride will show that up more than anything else.

My dealership does not have a KR for me to test ride. However, I sat on them many times before they were all sold and I liked the riding position better than that of my R. The only drawback I see, which you pointed out, is the difference in maintenance and rear tire wear.

I did own the FZ1 (140 hp) for a while and the power never scared me. It was a lot of fun getting to the speed limit so fast.

Gypsy I always thought you were so perfect as an RR girl !

Almost every reply here makes me want this bike even more. It wasn't until I saw this bike that made me want a motorcycle. To bad practicality took over in my mind and made me buy my Rockster. God damn logic. I hate my brain sometimes. But I love my Lobster Rockster anyways. *smileyface*

Saw a used '06 KR here in Kelowna for $18,000 Canadian. That's roughly $16,900 American and it also had low mileage. Hmmm, maybe I should sneak one over from the U.S..

Gypsy, I have to agree with Ed (except for the FJR part....). I too was thinking of going for a K1200R (Sport) and in fact test rode a new one (blue) a few weeks ago at my dealer. While the power was addictive, I must say that my R1200ST handles noticeably better thanks to the 62+ inch wheelbase of the KR. My ST's wheelbase is only about 59" and your RR's is about 58.5". Don't forget your (former) FZ1's wheelbase is 57.5" so going from the FZ/RR to the KR will make the BMW K feel much more ponderous, especially at lower speeds. Trust me, you'll really feel it.

The test ride put me off the KR (at least for now).

That said, go ahead and give the K1200R a test ride. Don't forget the KR Sport is the exact same bike but with the half fairing so if you have the opportunity to ride a K Sport, go for it.

I too had an FZ1 a few years ago prior to my Rockster. I traded my Rockster for a yellow (by far the best colour) K12R late last year and have absolutely no regrets.

In my opinion the KR combines all of the things I liked about the FZ1 and the Rock. I no longer miss the power and acceleration, but still have the refinement and that solid BMW "quality" which is hard to put a finger on. It is much more stable at speed or during hard acceleration than the Yamaha, and has noticeably more midrange grunt. Although the KR wheelbase is long as people point out, I find it easier to maneuver at low speed or moving around on foot as it feels more neutral than the RR and doesn't want to fall into the turn so much. Best of both worlds.

Take a test ride and expect to be impressed.

I'm passing on that bike. I decided to take my time and wait for a better deal and possibly a solid black KR. But I'll also take a test ride on a K1200RS, since I can't find a KR to try as soon as I get a chance.

I'd like to blame my renewed fascination with the KR on the recent purchase of a radar detector. Not that I intend to speed, but sometimes I just find myself over the line and I need to be reminded when I am I had to check it out to make sure it was working correctly the first day I had it, but now it's relegated to keeping me in check rather than giving me a license to speed.
